I'm guessing that as long as the contract starts after his 22nd birthday we don't have to pay hudds. All contracts must be signed before they come into effect and presumably the one he has signed is now with the RFL who recognise him as a Hull player from next season. I reckon the compensation for players under 22 only takes effect if the contract starts before their 22nd birthday
We can't force him to play for us though
So if that's the case why did hull back track last week and say they'd not signed him so wouldn't have to pay a fee? Sounds to me like niether club, Jake, or his agent know what the ruling is. If I were Connor is be pretty peed off with this circus by now- to top it all he's being threatened with legal action from his alleged new club! I hope he gets a new agent soon!

He can only sign a contract with Hull which starts 1st November as all RFL contracts run november to october. Hull's contract with josh griffin will run from 1/11/16 even though it's been signed now. The only difference here is that connor's birthday must be in November so his contract start date is 1st december. We can't sign him to play before his current deal runs out but he has been free to talk to other clubs since may and he's seemingly signed a deal with Hull post his medical last week which has been lodged with the RFL.
It's all pretty simple I think but if he doesn;t want to come there's no point making him but we need compensating for the loss of a player and we don;t know what other targets we've missed out on in the meantime.
As for how the lad feels, maybe it's your club who is leaking stuff to the press to try and destabalise the deal

Well Hull appears to understand the rules...

So you are accusing giants of leaking stuff when they knew nothing about the arrangement with Hull FC as far as they were concerned they were still in negotiations! FC were trying to get out of paying a fee for a player we have put thousands into developing- but you now expect us to compensate YOU. We will compensate you the amount you compensated us- how's that???

Despite Thewlis' claims FC owe compensation, the Mail understands the RFL have confirmed to the Black and Whites no fee is owed due to the fact Connor turns 22 before his contract at Hull begins.
Such is the bizarre nature of what has become a complicated deal, Hull could even find themselves receiving a six-figure sum for a player who has never played for them if the disagreement reaches the courts and Connor chooses to stay in Huddersfield.

To be honest if it was me in the middle of all of this I would say to Huddersfield and Thewlis thanks but no thanks. If Huddersfield wanted to keep him and make sure they didn't lose him to a rival club then they should have made him an offer that would have kept him there. Instead they appear to have offered him a deal which wasnt attractive enough to Jake Connor but now they have the very real chance he has gone they now want to offer him a greater deal???
My question to Thewlis if I were Jake Connor is why didnt you value me in the first place before anyone else came?
I really enjoy long walks especially when they are taken by people I don't like!
