ThePrinter wrote:No the sport of football hasn't struggled and clearly no one said that.

Some football clubs clearly have though and you know it but are too stubborn to admit it because it shows the flaw in your argument that successful businessmen wouldn't mess up at a sports club just because they've been successful elsewhere.

If you look at the football clubs that have failed they are ones that were run by directors who have never been successful businessmen in their own right.

The majority of soccer clubs that go bust are small clubs that cannot generate sufficient income to support the operation.

Peter Risdale was a personnel consultant as an example he should not have anywhere near running a football club/business of that size - kid and sweet shop come to mind

Peter Hood/Chris Caisley - neither were serious business people - Hood didn't have a pot to wee in - the whole point of raising all the money was to get Hood out of the personal mess he had got himself into.

Maurice was a bookmaker with delusions of grandeur not a serious businessman that had generated significant personal wealth

Alf Davies wasn't a businessman, Harry Jepson was a school teacher and Dennis Greenwood inherited what ever money he had - hardly a threesome to move the club forward

To suggest the likes of Caddick, McManus, Moran, Lenneghan, Guash, Glover, O'Connor could not be trusted if the cap were removed is bonkers in my view

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Yeah, because they would have gotten the massive tv deals if they hadnt have invested to start with. PL tv rights now are so valuable because of investment 5-10-15-20 years ago. Back in 1992 the PL rights were worth about £35m per year. Today they are worth about £2.5b all told. In 1996 SL rights were worth about 17.3m per year. Today they are worth £29.2m

One of those industries encouraged and allowed outside investment to build and promote their product.

One of those industries restricted that investment and has seen its product fall in prominence and prestige.

One of those industries has seen its value increase by about 70 times its initial value.

One of those industries has seen its tv rights just about keep up with inflation.

Tell me again about how the financial health of the premier league, its huge growth and improvement is based on the paper tiger that is FFP

I would suggest that it has been the Sky TV money that saved RL in this country not the salary cap. An increase in the cap is well overdue and without one I predict the game will continue to decline because we will not be able to attract the quality of player needed to attract the paying public in sufficuent numbers. The game needs more funds so we are able to produce the quality players needed in sufficient quantity or recruit that same quality from outside and deter defections to Union and the NRL.

Yeah I was on about football owners and you mostly just mentioned RL guys. And who do you think let Risdale have that position at Leeds?

A small media company called Caspian who payed the princely sum of £10m which was pretty much the entire worth of the company.
