For me this is a sad day for Hull FC for Richard Whiting is a hero that ranks amongst the best loved ever, of our players over the 60 or so years I've been around the Club.
He was always such a selfless individual who would do anything in any position for our Club. Never the out and out superstar he is still for me a real 'Hall of Famer' And although I know that there is no room for sentiment in sport a modicum of sentimentality from time to time never goes amiss.
For me this is so different to when say Horney retired because we all knew that was coming, we prepared for it and he left the Club to retire. This is somewhat of a surprise coming as it does mid season and it will not be long before someone says "I wish Whiting was here!"
He always gave his all and had great vision as a player, but he had some special qualities too. Whether it was being the go to man at short kick-off's or that amazing ability he always had of being able to hone in on any loose ball that fell within 6 or 7 yards of him, he was a very special player for us!! I helped a little with his Testimonial and he was a top bloke off the field too! I'll really miss him! I hope everyone on here will do as I have and contact the owner or the Club and request that they invite Richard to the Catalan game, so that before the game we can pay proper tribute to his selfless service to our Club.
Sad day for me, I liked Richard Whiting!

Guess if we beat Toulouse on Saturday, you'll want Leigh at your place in the next round, you win easily, and Superman Whiting scores for us !!!

A real FC man and it will seem strange seeing Stilts in another club's shirt. As I understand it, he's still on loan to the end of the season and I think it would be great if Radders could recall him to the fold for one last appearance before he becomes a Leigh player permanently. He would get a great send off from the fans and it would be a fitting farewell to one of our favourite sons.
Richard was one of those FC players that have turned up from time to time over our history. Not the world's greatest, not the flashiest, not the biggest hitting, the best passer, the best kicker nor and I feel unjustly referred to as not the fastest.
What he was and still is is a player that came across as a totally honest professional with integrity, gave his all, rarely had a bad game and would play without a murmur wherever he was asked and do a plenty fine job at it. Slot in at fullback after a stint at prop, where's RW, kick goals a couple of years after his last, yep that Richard again, he must be considered the greatest versatility player ever in living memory if not ever in the history of the game.
Not deemed good enough to be a full international by those who select such, yet he would have done far better than some of the cack that have let down the country when pulling on the jersey! He most definitely will go down as a club legend and rightly deserves a proper send off at a home game if at all possible, to a packed house before the derby game as Leigh aren't playing until the Sunday would be fitting. Proper old faithful.

Surely one of the best Hull players of the Super League era. Hardworking, professional and committed, intelligent and skilful, versatile beyond belief. Only lacking in pace, but for which he would have been a superstar. His opportunities were always going to be limited this season due to the strength and depth of our squad and I think he would have gone at the end of the season anyway. Thanks Rich and all the best for the future.

Would love the club to have been able to keep him at the club in a coaching role as his knowledge of the game is invaluable and although maybe not in the world class bracket he should rightly go down as an all time great at Hull FC.
Couldn't put it any better Chris!

If they have an away game closer to Hull you'd probably get even more attending. Work permitting, I'd be there!

I feel quite sad we won't have the chance to say goodbye and thank you officially. Rich Whiting is a professional, never any rumour about his behaviour off the pitch and came across as a genuine bloke. Our loss is Leigh's gain. Good luck Rich and thank you.
