58.7% of people love stats, & I'm one of them.

As a disclaimer & before anyone else says it - there are lots of variables to take into account, especially when comparing to other sides and it's of course very early in the season. We all watch the games & don't need some stats to help say whether we were good or c'rap, just a thread for anyone who's interested to throw some stats around and have a chat on what they do or don't mean.

Missed Tackles:
We've missed 9.1% of tackles attempted. 29 per game on average.
To compare: Widnes are at 7%, Wigan 6.8%, Wolves 5.4%. We're the worst in SL (so far).
Last year we were at 8.6%, so his looks like one aspect of our play that dramatically needs to improve

Meters:
Our meters per carry are 3rd highest in SL (same as last season), yet for overall meters we rank 8th. As expected with such a large squad, we have ability to get down the field, but do the low overall meters & carries indicates were not having our fair share of possession?

Errors & Offloads:
Third lowest in SL for errors, which is good, but is that indicating we're playing low risk rugby or more clinical? Couple this with us being 10th in offloads too (last year we were 4th highest for offloads).

4th:
For tackle busts, tries and clean breaks. Barring the humiliation at Widnes, we're creating and finishing our opportunities it seems.

Goals:
Currently at 76% success rate, which is higher than last year, but is still low when compared to Sneyd at Cas. His kicking has noticeably improved though.

I love stats and this tell me. Although some teams have played an extra game, so they will be slightly out as an overall comparison

Our defence just isn't good enough, mainly when the opponents get in our 30, we seem to just crumble.

We are play too safe rugby, not enough offloads.

We need to finish chances, if we did that we on Thursday the game would have been over after 20 mins.

Defense is the biggest concern.. gaps in the middle, not wrapping up the ball to stop offloads, and a sliding defense that turns into a free-for-all most times teams pass the ball wide

I made the point about our defence after the Salford game and was told not to worry as we were scoring plenty.

IMO the offload stat is more about our sudden lack of support play than any 'play it safe' game plan. Apart from the first two games there is rarely anyone in a position to take advantage of an offload so of course we aren't making many.

How do we stand with penatlties?
I don't think we are that high but when/where they occur on the pitch seems to have cost us badly at very crucial times.

Interesting point. I think that's been one of our faults for years. Not so much the amount of penalties we give away but more where and when we give them away which often puts us under pressure. For example, on the fifth tackle whilst defending our line.

I'd be interested to know the meters made against us by teams compared to their average against other teams. My impression is it would be higher. Our big supposedly dominant pack seem to be unable to keep a team in their own half and teams just sweep upfield often aided by penalties as we're on the back foot. The worry is our pack is just generally too slow and lacking in agility and teams target us using their small speedy halves to bust us back inside. Last year was similar but we scrambled better.
