The machines used or the stewards manning the system are not that great anyway.
One match last season I was approached by a steward and asked if I was over 60. I am still a good few years off yet so I looked at him and asked "are you taking the pi$$".
He said the lights had indicated I had gone through on a concession pass even though my pass clearly stated adult. He wanted to take my pass off me and said I would have to go to the office the next day to get it back.
He could see I was getting annoyed at this point so agreed to let it go on this occasion. Thankfully it never happened again but either he misread the lights or the machine misread my pass.

This is a crime in the same way as downloading music illegally off the internet. Watching an unauthorised clip of Super League on youtube. Watching content online not intended for your country. Etc.
Yes there is a reason it's not allowed, but give it a rest. I bet every single one on here condemning it so strongly have done similar to the above. It shouldn't be done and the club should take action, but it is not as terrible as some people are suggesting.

This happens with all these new electrical ways of buying things. Take buying something online, say a kid wants to buy an 18 rated dvd, as long as he uses his parents' cards then he gets away with it. I know this is nowhere near the same but take self-service in supermarkets and that thing that asks you how many bags you've used, so easy to just press none even if you've got a load. At the stadium, buy the ticket from the machine, scan it at turnstile and you're in without speaking to a single human being. Technology is not always a good thing, especially not seen as the turnstiles at south-west have broken down both home games this year... :-/

To be fair its been going on for years, its not a recent thing. As long ago as 1986 when I started working on the turnstiles at the Boulevard I had parents swearing to me their 5ft son had just turned 4 years old and so on. With the old gates at the Boulevard and the (lack of) security there wasn't a lot you could do but you can with the more modern, manned turnstiles. It was bound to happen with unmanned ticket machines, there has to be some trust. Like cc said, it is a problem for the SMC to sort out, afterall, it was them that got rid of the manned ticket office who could question and request proof of identity.

Not really. I think everyone agreed it's not right. We disagreed on the severity. It seems to range from "Tut, SMC need to sort it" to "Scum, they need hanging".
