Leigh Centurions regret to announce that the Family Fun Day and Rugby Festival planned for next Sunday, 31 January has been cancelled.

Explaining the decision Leigh Centurions Owner Derek Beaumont said: "It is always regretful to have to cancel an event or in some ways to be seen to fail at something, but sometimes in life and business you have to put your hand up and accept that something hasn’t worked and move on accordingly.

"With only four teams entered for the Sevens and 39 tickets sold it would not have been a worthwhile event for those who have made the purchases and would be unfair to them as they would not get the value they deserve.

"The Commercial Department promoted the event with posters in the community and a lot of exposure on social media with an enticing video from the players but there doesn’t seem to be the appetite for it at this time of year.

"So maybe it is something we can look towards doing later in the year when the weather is perhaps more suitable.

"I would like to thank those that purchased tickets and entered teams into the event and apologise personally for the disappointment you will no doubt have been caused with this announcement."

"Those who had entered teams or bought a ticket will receive a full refund and that can be obtained from the Ticket Office at LSV during normal opening hours.

"As a gesture for the inconvenience caused to those that were entering a team there will be a wrist band for access to the Banqueting Suite post match at the Oldham fixture.

"It is not necessary to have a match ticket to make use of the band; these will be available on reception and details communicated to those that entered.

"The players and coaching staff will attend Leigh East Pavilion after the Oldham game once proceedings in the Banqueting Suite are completed and will enjoy socialising with spectators.

"This is something we will repeat throughout the season at both Leigh East and Leigh Miners.

"As a Club we remain committed to our community and will continue to propose events that engage ‎the team with our fans.

"Ultimately it is the fans' Club and fans will always dictate what happens and doesn't by the very nature of their involvement."

A sensible decision in good time.

I particularly like the use of both East and Miners, post match, during the season.
