I'm with Perry Boy on this. Alker was given the chance and regretted not taking it.

I'm glad in a sense that we've addressed a 2nd hooker but i feel Hood offered more of a creative role than Tomkins. I'm very underwhelmed with Sheen's decision here. we have one of the worst hooker pairings in the league for creativity and three of the worst Props in the league in Joseph and the two walnuts. Gee we need Ferres badly it doesn't look good.

There's nothing wrong with Tomkins, he's just underwhelming. He works hard and never seems to let his head drop, which may be an asset in the coming season if things get tough. I'm also of the opinion that Hood has gone because he's been offered the opportunity in Australia, and good luck to the lad. I certainly don't think he's been discarded in favour of Tomkins.
At the end of the day he's another hard worker in a position we were light in. There's certainly worse around.
I certainly agree with the Butcher. Nothing against Tomkins, works hard. We seem to assembled a steady eddie, high work rate team. Feel we will be just treading water this next season. Interesting that a lot of the players are on one year contracts, giving Salford the scope to improve on signings for 2017 season

Very odd signing this, given that when speaking to Sheens at the end of last season he said himself Tomkins wouldn't be retained and that he had big plans for Hood. I suppose Hood wanting to move over to Australia scuppered those plans and we've had to get someone in as #2 hooker.
The fact he has only signed a one-year-deal suggests Tomkins is just a stop gap, until something better comes along for 2017.

I agree with the "treading water" comment and is this squad of "steady mediocurs" going to cut the mustard. Hopefully they gel but I feel for the worst in the middle 8s Bradford will be knocking again and Leigh have recruited heavily. I realise from first hand experience over the past two years this doesn't always work, but they will be an extremely difficult team to beat in the 8s. Especially with players out to prove a point.

Well it's another in the long line of Salford signing the "Other brother"
Nothing against Tomkins but I hate to say it but that Yorkshire fools words (Danny Lockwood) keep on ringing in my ears "Salford will keep Wakefield off the foot of the table"
Very underwhelmed.....
The fans, the members, the people there.. from the day I stepped foot onto that field at the AJ Bell Stadium,I knew I would love that club for the rest of my life. "Jackson Hastings"..

Sorry who is our director of rugby again? I'll trust the outgoing Australian coach before any of you negative lovers!!!! Let him do his job and assemble a team with the type of players he sees fit and stop bloody moaning and dissecting every signing we make!!! If we are a pile of cack next year then you can moan then ffs, but not a week into pre season training!!!

Good grief what a bunch of glass half empty folk!
Can I remind you of the last two years? We signed big names on expensive contracts, had an England/GB coach running the show and got precisely where? NOWHERE!!!
I'm with NorthMancDevil and I'll trust Tim Sheen's judgement before anyone on here
FFS lighten up and let's look forward to next season
