<At the risk of starting his nibs off again> I note that Beaumont at Leigh has managed to get an extension to the salary cap. I dont know the ins and outs of this, in fact it all sounds a little contrived to get Chase on the books - but the bottom line seems to be provided a bond is lodged with RFL, anything is possible.

Given this, I wonder if David Hughes has the appetite to push the salary cap boundaries ? After all he has single handedly bankrolled the club for years, to a greater level.

It does make me laugh reading the esteem that folk hold Beaumont in having ploughed a million into Leigh over 3 years with the chalice of SL on the horizon. Like it or not, DH has ploughed in multi times that level with no return and certainly no cups to show for it. Have to say that is commitment.

Not seen the details of the salary cap thing, are they allowing them the marquee player over payment

Leigh have secured an increase in the £1million ceiling. Under new rules they can spend £1.3million. The increase is based on accounts provided and is subject to a cash bond being deposited with the RFL. As a result they can sign more players like Rangi Chase.

I think they have been able to demonstrate they have the income streams to demonstrate viability.

Life is pretty simple: You do stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works.

The way I see it, either the RFL are gutless and are not prepared to stand up to this Beaumont guy. Or they are so desperate to get Leigh into SuperLeague
that they will bend the rules to ensure it..
If they feel the salary cap rules need changing, which they probably do. Now is not the time to do it. This change should come into effect for 2017 season.
to allow all clubs to plan for it.
This is further proof that Big Nige and the rest of the RFL board are not fit for purpose and should do the decent thing and go.

Surely the Salary cap is about having a level playing field. The fact Leigh can show they have an income stream that would support paying whatever, is not relevant.
Perhaps we should work this the other way. Say a club like Batley can only afford £750 000 , make all the clubs work with a salary gap of that amount.
As I have said before, this is not good and certainly not fair.

The RFL want to prove the concept of the Super 8s works and will do anything to facilitate that. If thats the case, go the whole hog and equalise the salary cap between Super League and Championship, the same provisos, requirements to apply across the board.

Quite right, Either that or do away with it completely. We would see how deep some of these Clubs pockets are.

They've removed ( to a certain extent) the inequality in playing standards by reducing SL by 2 (getting rid of the poorest teams) and now seem hell bent on creating the inequality one level lower. At least the thrashings are not on TV each week

Chase wont win you SL he is a luxury player

Benji is looking for a job in UK, Ealing maybe :)

Sod Of Cowgirl don't rail road this one :)

How can you railroad a discussion that illustrates nothing other than cognitive dissonance at play?

Selco, answer our prayers!

David Hughes - The Gerald Ratner of Rugby League? Discuss. Or not as the case may be.

So, now we learn that if DH would be willing to foot the bill, we could have hung onto Sean Morris. What a farce, RFL moves recruitment goalposts, when most clubs are 90% towards finalising their squads.
