Wasn't it up Little Westgate on the site of the Tavern, up from the Wine Lodge.

What about the Twenty Vaults on York Street. Charlie and Mary were landlord and landlady when I started going in..me and about a dozen mates off Eastmoor used to start there back in the 60's I remember Charlie always wore a battered old pair of white tennis pumps.we used to leave there and then to Talbot & Falcon Black Rock Strafford White Horse and Mitre with sometimes pubs a bit lower down Westgate thrown in for good measure.great days late 60's and 70's for Wakefield pubs and nightlife. Twenty Vaults eventually became New York bar and we used to finish off in there for last hour or so at weekends.talk about sardines packed in a can it was standing room only every night. Halcyon days indeed.

We used to do the New York bar midweek when everywhere else was quiet, was it a Tuesday evening?
