When Warrington play I'm so hyped up. If it's Wigan v Saints ... I still really watch it. But when England play I'm not revved up.
It doesn't make sense. Why? (I suppose born four miles from Wilderspool and dad taking me to ground aged 4 makes a difference) but still a bit strange.
I think it's more to do with the fact we are not used to supporting England than something else like club rivalries for example
A man u supporting colleague of mine will not even entertain the England soccer team because he can't watch a team with (at the time of the discussion) terry lampard and Gerrard in it. .. he had zero interest in it.
It does take some time to cheer for Wigan players, and I do remember finding it extremely odd shouting "come on Edwards"
when GB played the Aussies at Wembley. ..but you soon get wrapped up in it. .. there will be one or two RL equivalents of my Man United colleague (Dropkick Murphy I'm guessing)
I think it's the lack of frequency of the international game that's the problem. by the time the next England game comes along we've lost the impetus of fans support . .. hopefully lots of those yesterday have now decided to go the next game because supporting your country especially when it's winning is actually quite good. ...
I was quite nervous watching that game yesterday it was a good spectacle at Hull, a decent game, and jiffy got to have a dig at some of the English union boys on the red button show. ..
