Witty, but far too much invective to be regarded as a cool analysis of the Union 'fraternity'. We have the better game and the more skillful players, but lots of ordinary blokes prefer Union, even if the top management and game roots are with the upper classes. Plus the dig at Wales was not called for. For me, I just accept that I do not understand the finer points of Union. I watched yesterday's final so that I can compare it directly with today's League international. I'm hoping our boys prove a point. But what I saw on the field yesterday and regarded as untidy thuggery was often described by the commentators as 'brilliant work'. Short passes to the inside man in no space was called out as 'fantastic handling'. They obviously see something that I don't.

In my experience, I've always found my union-watching friends more than willing to watch and enjoy league, whether it's in a pub or a trip to Wembley and Perpignan (as well as Salford and Huddersfield). On my part though, I would never set foot in Twickenham or pay to go and see a game of Union.
At least they got to see the RL world cup final live...

I've spent years discussing the merits of both games. Rugby League supporters often can't understand what Union supporters see in the Union game and vice versa. I much prefer League but I've given up trying to convert anyone. They think League is so simple and repetitive that the scrum and the play the ball are a bit of a joke. We see no merit in the scrum/line out/ruck and wonder why they kick it all the time and see so little handling. I believe the two have much in common ... as opposed to that silly round ball game ... but that they are very different.

League fans attitude towards union and fans of either rugby code towards football are embarrassing. They're different games and people like what they like. Some people even like all three of those games.

Constantly talking about how league is "a superior product" or going on about how "we all know it's the greatest game of all" while largely preaching to the converted on a rugby league forum is simply cringey. For whatever reason the vast majority of the world don't agree with you. So what?

Newsflash, most of you on here like RL because you're from Warrington and it is therefore a game you've grown up with. If you were from Leicester it's very likely you'd prefer union. If you were from a completely football orientated city like the two 20 miles either side of Warrington you'd probably have no interest in rugby at all. If you were from Melbourne you'd prefer Aussie Rules, Ireland GAA games, America and their big sports etc etc etc.

Just enjoy "your" game and others that appeal to you. Those that don't aren't worth worrying about.

a very sensible post..during this union world cup we`ve had umpteen pages on the union game and the majority on how bad the game is...i bet all those who slagged it off took a sneaky peek at the games shown..probably enjoyed it but wont admit on here in case they get slagged off...like the above poster said if you like union or football so be it..for me league is better but appreciate all sports

Saw the word posh in the text of the opening thread, and thought "here we go"

Clicked on the link, and wasn't disappointed to see the usual clichés.

Yawn, indeed. That's a couple of minutes of my life I wont get back

Most RL fans don't like RU, and vice-versa, and a lot of that is down to class hatred. Not me. Their game baffles/bores me. My dislike of RU has nothing to do with
how you were educated,
where you live,
what car you drive,
if you like the opinions of Jeremy Clarkson,
and the rest of the tired old rubbish

Some RL fans need to take the chip off their shoulders

Neither glass half full or empty. Just a realist.

Admirable sentiments BUT I can't completely put behind me the efforts that Union put into destroying League, the banning of young players if they had played League at any point...but it's probably an age thing on my part.

Just my opinions unless it's a FACT, in which case it's a fact.

I found that to be divisive, bigoted, drivel.

I consider myself to be a passionate supporter of Rugby League...no surprise..I'm from the heartlands of the sport. It is the best form of Rugby in my opinion....its more exciting as a spectacle, and ALL the players at the top level are supreme athletes.

Living where I do in Northamptonshire, my son plays Union...I am also a Level 1 qualified Union coach. I know plenty of people/friends who are as passionate about Union as I am about League...BUT they also appreciate the League game....no problems.

However, I have seen up-close, a very poor attitude towards League that is also typical. I have had to sit and listen to senior Union coach coordinators absolutely trash our game. I have, and always will have, a suspicion about those running the game of Union and their attitude towards League.

I also think the media does not represent League as much as it deserves...and this is down to deep rooted, establishment ties between Union and the people in power. (The media, industry, Sponsors, The City blah blah blah).

Our game does not receive the attention it deserves...it never will....do I lose sleep over that...n'ah....I just enjoy the game I love.
