Anyone got any insight on our homegrown players coming through and whether they're classed as first team squad players or academy? Or what the rules are for including their salaries on the cap? IIRC you used to have to have 8 homegrown in your top 25 earners? If we have 16 non homegrown, possibly the 9 in blue would be the 8 making up the top 25? (if that rule still exists).

I make it that we've currently got 15 homegrown players who've played in SL in the squad.

This is all there is on the subject:

Federation Trained Player’: a player who, for any 3 full Seasons before the end of the Season in which he ceases to be eligible by age to play at Under 21 level has been on the Club’s register or the register of another Club which plays in competitions under the jurisdiction of a member of the RLEF. For the avoidance of doubt if a player moves from one Club’s register to another Club’s register and there is a period of no more than 28 days in the Season (as defined) and any amount of the period between the 1 December and the day of the first League Match, Representative Match or Cup Tie (whichever is sooner) between being removed from one register and being registered with another Club, consecutively shall not be broken for the purposes of this clause. In addition a Club may apply for a Player who has been granted New Talent Pool status under the Salary Cap Regulations to be granted Federation Trained status.
‘Academy Junior’: a player who is eligible by age to play at Under 21 level and who is on the Club’s Register.
B1:15:1 At the time of notification in any season of the Provisional First Team Squad and First Team Squad and following any amendments during the season, a Super League or Championship Club’s First Team Squad must consist of a maximum of 7 players who are not either: (a) Federation Trained; or (b) Academy Juniors.

NON FEDERATION TRAINED – SUPER LEAGUE AND CHAMPIONSHIP CLUBS

B1:14:1 The purpose behind the “Home Grown Player” Rule is:

to encourage Clubs to develop and better develop their own players so that there are more players coming into the game and so that the standard improves; and
to afford an opportunity to junior players to play in top level competitive matches in order to aid their development and ensure the development of the sport.

Just to add - the 'club trained' allowances, only apply to playesr that make the England (or Knights) Train on Squad.

The rules you stated above have changed from this year. I assume all mention of how to define a homegrown player has been removed as they prepare to write in the marquee rule, as how homegrown players are categorised will be much more important moving forward.

The international allowances are to be removed this year iirc

Im assuming that the homegrown rule, as we currently know it, must be a thing of the past. Over at Hull Kingston Rovers by my reckoning we are down to 6 homegrown players in the squad, and of those only 4 are likely to be in the top 25 earners.

Im thinking that our Academy set up needs a shake up. :)

I don't get it. It looks like the rules have changed though. So in theory could your squad of 25 as submitted be 7 non Fed and 18 Fed, the latter regardless of whether homegrown or not?

As the operational rules currently read: yes.

I would expect that to change between now and the start of next season though with the new rules (ie the marquee rule) being brought in, which should bring a different interpretation over what a home grown player is (long overdue).

They seem to update the rules incrementally, rather than just pull it down for a week and put the new one up.

What difference will that make though, other than giving a salary cap dispensation for one squad member? :?

The salary cap year started on the 1st December last year, and I can't imagine that changing.
Clubs will surely have already been told what other changes have been made which directly affect who can play?

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?
