This is perfect motivation for Sam to a big season when he 100% fit.
Ideally he will pull out of the England squad

Lam will be the main coach 2019 and Edwards will work along side but not in public view until 2020 maybe we will end up following the Leeds Rhinos director of rugby style.

I seem to remember some typically Mersey Tunnel-mouthed NRL journo saying that Andy Platt and Denis Betts - who both went to Auckland - were among the worst overseas signings ever made too.
The common denominator here seems to be New Zealand.

Again, having watched every game he's played in the NRL, on this occasion, it's got nothing to do with 'pom bashing' - simply not delivering value for his reported £700k per season.

In his first season he scored 13 tries and had 12 try assists to his name from 26 games. Hardaker this year scored 10 tries and 6 try assists from 25 games
Not sure what Hardaker has to do with this debate about Tomkins being viewed as one of the worst signings in the NRL, it's all about his performances against his salary. But, if you are wanting to compare, wouldn't it be prudent to use more than just tries and try assists? Maybe include, line breaks, line break assists, tackles, missed tackles etc.... Unfortunately there isn't a stat for 'tries saved'... Just for fairness and a more rounded picture...
Anyway, all (including most Wigan fans) but the most one eyed Wigan fans who have watched him play in every game for the Warriors acknowledge he's been one hugely expensive mistake for them... And the danger for you lot is that you could have made the same mistake - his NRL experience could have had an equally damaging effect on his abilities as a trip to Union has for many....

Haven't there also been rumblings of some less than professional attitudes at club level in NZ? Still treating it as an amateur comp to some degree? He probably has underperformed from where the expectations were (too high in reality), but I'd hazard there are more reasons for that than just the "ST is rubbish" bullhooks coming in from (surprise, surprise) the other side of the Pennines.

Yes we know that full back play is about more than scoring and making tries
The point about comparing Sam's stats with Zak is this -
Zak made fewer and scored fewer tries in Super League when he was Man of Steel than when Sam was supposedly such a disaster in the NRL. Even when Sam is such a disaster he contributes.
In fact his contribution in his only full NRL season compares very favourably with Billy Slater and Greg Inglis - the worlds best full backs.
People are not looking at this contribution fairly. His salary has bugger all to do with whether he was a success or not.

In isolation tomkins hasn't been bad. But for the money paid he....has.
NZ warriors (rightly or wrongly) were expecting a superstar, instead they got (by nrl standards) an above average attacking fullback who's poor in defence. Who's then decided after just one season he can't handle being away from his little town in the north of england. Understandably they aren't impressed.

Tomkins actually gives teams alot of change with his defensive frailties. Can also be great in attack. Not too much different to Matty Bowen at times this season. Just as you were really.

I'm sure he reads your usual negative posts with the same amusement we do.
