Noticed the Guardian are doing a feature on each Super League season week to week and thought it might be interesting to go through them and see what people's memories are from each one (it is the off season after all - peak reminiscing time). 1996 was a couple of years before my time personally.

Bit of an "in between" season Just come off the infamous game v Stains in the Regal Trophy, but got some confidence back, resulting in a solid 4th or 5th place iirc.
Highlight of the season, THAT try by Richard Henare v Stains. That's why I LOVE RL

I don't remember much, it was so long ago and I was only 10. I can vaguely recall the Henare try, but the memory is probably lumped together with other long range tries he scored.
I do remember the drubbing mentioned in the op, though...

Yeah, I was reading that article on Sunday, made me smile when looking at the results over that season, especially when I remembered some of Mafi's tries...boy was he quick!! Fletcher St was bouncing.
Many memories a mixture of good and bad, Wire could always come up with off the cuff moves with great tries, fantastic individual displays pulling off some fantastic wins against the odds, but when it mattered it was a bit like the Morecambe and Wise sketch, all the right plays (notes) but not necessarily in the right order, in a strange way as frustrating as it was a lot of fans enjoyed the roller coaster that was watching the Wire.
I think over the years any of the wins against the odds are my best.
The original title was to have been, so you think it's bad now then av a butchers at this! for all the nostalgia we won zilch pre Smith, looking at the picture of Sculthorpe and Harris who if the club had any intentions would have built a team around taking us forward, but no we were skint and had to sell, the years of nothing it still hurts, and yet I kept on turning up season ticket after season ticket, with no change in sight.
I love my rugby they say love is blind thankfully Simon Moran has awakened me to realise that for all the old memories I've watched some **** witnessed all the pretenders listened to the false prophets, also allaying for me the old rumour that we didn't win anything because we had lost the key to the cabinet trophy and couldn't open it.
Well truth hurts but I wouldn't change a thing there were some good individual moments, turn back the clock I would still be in the queue for my season ticket, as for Super League 2 message, I've had enough nightmares time to move forward, in twenty years time from now I want to read through my milk bottle bottom glasses, all about a successful club where unlike Sculthorpe and Harris we kept Currie signed Hughes to compliment him Clark and others.
