Really sorry for letting this lapse a bit towards the end though we did get through all the positions with some excellent debate, thanks to everyone who contributed. I intend to finalise the team on Sunday to coincide with the Heritage day and post it after the game. Below are all the links to the voting threads for the player positions which i think are all still active. Please have a look and cast your votes if you haven't yet done so, and so wish to do. Just a couple of bit of unfinished business. we didn't select a coach so we can have a bit of debate over the next few days and get one in place. also the team needs 4 subs which will be finalised once the main team has been selected because the majority if not all of these will be drawn from players already nominated in the various categories - and we need to see who wins first in order to see which players are 'left over'

International Chairman
Roy Francis...the end
Okay a bit more, he took an unfashionable unsuccessful club to the greatest heights in the clubs history and produced players that represented GB and a team that won trophies with 9 finals in 9 years, he made very few if any 'big' top name signings, just moulded the existing team plus a few amatuers (The Drakes from Hewarth, York). The club never had the resources that Bunting had and yet despite winning fewer trophies Francis coached us to levels that are stil talked about today.

Under his stewardship we got to Wembley for the first time in 35 years and to win the championship for the first time in 20, only a challenge cup victory eluded him!
A former GB representative - though was disgustingly not chosen in the tour down under in '46 due to the racist Australians whom had a non white bar on rugby players  , he played 126 times for Hull scoring 60 tries, 3 years overlapping as player coach.

His methods were ground breaking in ANY sport and he went on from Hull to even more success with Leeds. He is considered to be the greatest coach in modern rugby league history.

Aside from being the first black player to represent his country at the highest level, the first black coach of a professional/top level sport his Hull honours include:

Rugby League Championship 1955/56, 1957/58, runners up, 1956/57
Challenge Cup runners up 1958/59, 1959/60
Yorkshire Cup runners up 53/54, 54/55, 55/56 59/60 (this also is replicated with the Yorkshire league)
European champions 1956/57

For me we have had several good coaches, David Doyle Davidson did wonders with no money while Arthur Bunting did wonders with lots of money but for me Roy Francis was just above them all because he not only sustained a level of success that went on for getting on for 10 years but he also devised a way of playing that fundamentally changed the game and the way it was coached forever, he created the mobile 'Panzer' Pack named as it was after the fast, mobile and devastatingly lethal German Second World War tank.

Roy Francis had everything and his coaching record with Hull FC has never been matched. Was lucky to witness his whole stay with the club from player to player/coach to coach and for me is a true legend of the club.

Knew him personally in Hull and met up with him again when he came to Aus to coach North Sydney. A true gentleman.

and it looks like Steve Norton is going to get the nod over Johnny Whiteley, that will be the biggest tragedy of this voting, Norton whilst having flashes of brilliance wasn't this all conquering player that some seem to think he was, he had plenty of talent around him, but I found him to be a bit lazy, went in and out of games too often, he wasn't even the best loose man at the club anyway but Mick Crane was his own worst enemy, could have been amongst the top dogs in this list if he'd got his head screwed on.

I'd have Jason Smith above knocker and Whiteley above them both but it's votes that count, crying shame.

Norton was a good player but more than that an icon and hero of the early 80's, however having seen them both play he couldn't hold a candle to Whiteley who again rather like Roy Francis (and under his guidance) re-defined the role of a loose forward as he took the position from an extra back row forward to a ball handling running almost centre like role. Seeing Knocker ghosting through the line was one thing and a sight to remember but if you ever witnessed Whitley majestically striding through the centre of the ruck, shorts rolled up and long legs pumping the air you'd never question who was the best. Trouble is of course more people on here saw Knocker than ever watched whiteley. As has been said by so many on here its all subjective and dependent on your age.

Whiteley is a living legend but I never saw him play so I can't vote for him,as for Smith over Norton, get real..Smith was the best I have seen after Norton but was hardly fit the last 2 yrs where Norton did it over a number of years.Of course votes count as everyone won't have seen some of the players and you can't vote for Tommy Harris,Billy Batten etc etc if you haven't seen them play.

Summed it up well there Wilf

There'll be a lot of players who won't get any votes if that's the case.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Why not? It's the greatest Hull FC team from 150 years, not pick your favourite players.

Billy Batten played a century ago but is remembered as an all-time great of the sport.

Having said all that it's only a bit of fun
