10 years ago, we were on the rise. We managed to harness that cup final success and we did kick on in 2006. Mismanagement at board room level then saw our best and most influential player leave in 2007. For me the decision to sack Sharp was also a huge error at boardroom level and saw the club spiral downward. The 2008 CC final appearance was papering over the cracks.

Since 2010 we have been relying on the odd unexpected victory against a bigger club or Rovers, rather than being realistic contenders.

I really hope the work being done behind the scenes, which Pearsons has said was crucial and which Radford has been actioning comes together in 2016, otherwise we will always be looking back on the odd day of success rather than focussing on the future.

Remembering the 2005 final win is all well and good, but I very much doubt the likes of Leeds, Wigan and St Helens will commemorate an event from 10+ years ago.

Up there for me too (probably equal).

Remember driving down on Friday and stopping at the services to hear that Briscoe was out, arriving in Cardiff and going on the lash, getting up with a huge hangover on Saturday, then back on it. The game itself was a bit of a blur, but the celebrations after :DRUNK:

Drinking champagne all night and getting refused entry to Walkabout as I still had my FC shirt on. Getting to bed about 4 then getting up and driving to Hull for the parade. What a weekend!

Let's do it all again soon.

I think you're doing the club and fans a disservice there, Phooey.

That cup run was a major feat; beating ALL Super League teams to get there. We lost our star fullback on the eve of the game and were playing a team that were big favourites to win. We upset the odds and it produced the finest cup final and it'sthe last time we won it.

Why not commemorate it? The last time we won the CC, most people on this forum weren't even born.

The game itself was a power struggle of tries, skill and massive defence with the lead changing hands many times. If you recall, there was only ONE penalty in the entire game. Ganson's ability to let the game be a spectacle really made it work.
Some of the memories stay with you:

Swains chargedown
Marcus Bai's offload to Whiting
Kears fall over the ad boards
Blacklocks backflip in front of the fans
Cooke's salute as he beautifully dummied his way over
A very young Danny Brough calmly slotting over the goals, including a touchline one and the last one which brought memories of Don Fox and must have been a crushing pressure on his shoulders.

All us FC fans getting hugged and pounced on by other fans as we left, all so pleased we beat Leeds. The mixed bands of Bradford and Leeds outside the bar near the ground playing for a mass of RL fans and the police joining in.

I won't forget the day, the players won't and nor will anyone there.

Great post - spot on. A fantastic atmosphere. Even a few Leeds fans said we deserved it

Fnot for one minute am I suggesting it should bot be commemorated, , but we (fans of all the Hull clubs) do tend to reflect on the past a little too much in my opinion.

The day itself was amazing. I stayed in Bath the night before, travelled to Cardiff on the train, met up with Spooky, took in the atmosphere around the city centre, sat on the edge of my seat for most of the game, resembled an accordion when Cooke scored the winner, beers after and then back to Bath.

The point of my earlier post was its a sad reflection that it's now 10 years since our last trophy win. We are consistently referred to as a big club by opposing clubs and players, but most of that is based on our fan base and potential. the past 6 years have seen us not really scratch the surface of that potential and right now the fan base is despondent and diminishing.

My earlier point still stands, I doubt Leeds / Wigan fans (or clubs for that matter ) will be as reflective as we are regarding any of their trophy wins in the SL era.

Was a great day (weekend), no doubt.

But I do agree that clinging to it is starting to get a little tedious.

The last 10 years have flown by to be honest, people take the mickey out of KR not winning for 35 years, well our 10 could quickly become 15 or 20....!

Remember the good times, of course, but I want to see looking forward and challenging more frequently. You only have to look at the hysteria around KR appearance this weekend to see that waiting decades for a cup final win can have.

I hope we don't have to wait 35 years for the next one...
