Remembering the 2005 final win is all well and good, but I very much doubt the likes of Leeds, Wigan and St Helens will commemorate an event from 10+ years ago.
I think you're doing the club and fans a disservice there, Phooey.
That cup run was a major feat; beating ALL Super League teams to get there. We lost our star fullback on the eve of the game and were playing a team that were big favourites to win. We upset the odds and it produced the finest cup final and it'sthe last time we won it.
Why not commemorate it? The last time we won the CC, most people on this forum weren't even born.
The game itself was a power struggle of tries, skill and massive defence with the lead changing hands many times. If you recall, there was only ONE penalty in the entire game. Ganson's ability to let the game be a spectacle really made it work.
Some of the memories stay with you:
Swains chargedown
Marcus Bai's offload to Whiting
Kears fall over the ad boards
Blacklocks backflip in front of the fans
Cooke's salute as he beautifully dummied his way over
A very young Danny Brough calmly slotting over the goals, including a touchline one and the last one which brought memories of Don Fox and must have been a crushing pressure on his shoulders.
All us FC fans getting hugged and pounced on by other fans as we left, all so pleased we beat Leeds. The mixed bands of Bradford and Leeds outside the bar near the ground playing for a mass of RL fans and the police joining in.
I won't forget the day, the players won't and nor will anyone there.
