To be fair Ganson also punished Ablett for laughing so there is the argument Ganson is just a bit further a tit. I think by and large the referees do ok. Far too often criticism of the refs is for 50/50 calls like knock ons or forward passes but those are always going to go against you and you are always going to get disagreements about them.

Also too often referees aren't helped by the rules. The dumb insistence that they guess at a decision before sending it up to the VR is one of them. The obstruction nonsense is another. The play the ball is the best example as refs have to referee and ill-defined rule and even then only to an undefined level of strictness. Some rules set the refs up to fail.

Saying that. A few so get caught up emotionally. Ganson used to pretty much get in to running battles with players, silverwood can sometimes do the same. The new generation seem a bit better still this. Though child does seem to decide in the changing rooms how he will ref a game and what actually happens on the fields is almost irrelevant .

You think the referees do ok? really?

Personally, I think everyone who watches the games your teams are involved in, view from a bias perspective, and therefore only see what goes against you.

However, I also think that since the introduction of full time officials, the officials make more mistakes now than they ever did before. And with the justification of full time that is not acceptable, not acceptable at all. Why are we doing it in the first place (fulltime) if we are not getting anything better for it.

Last weekend I saw four matches, two reffed by Thaler (who I think is by far and away the best referee in this country), and two by Silverwood. In all four games these two referees made so many blatent mistakes, it was just unacceptable.

But where is the pressure on them to improve their game? regardless of performance the same guys get the big games.

If you are going to utilize full time officials, then it needs to be paid for properly, and that means there should be minimum of 10 referees for super league, and when they are not utilized they go as touch judge instead, or referee lower down the league. These guys need competition, and they need to be held accountable for poor performance, just like any other walk of life. If we are not doing that, then we might aswell go back to part time officials, as it was no worse then what we are getting.

Yes I do. I think by and large they do ok. I think the play the ball is a mess as is obstruction but I think that is down to the rules and not the refs.

But yeah I think they mostly do ok and bar games leeds or England are involved in, I rarely come away thinking the ref has had a stinker.

I find I shout & bawl at the ref at the game but when I come back home & watch the game again on tv I find that 90-95% of all calls are correct .
The refs generally make fewer mistakes than the players.
All I want is the consistent application of the rules to both teams.
I tend to think the ref has done this or done ok when both sets of fans complain about him on sites such as this.

1 Warrington 2 Hull 3 Wigan 4 Castleford 4 Castleford 5 St Helens 6 Leeds 7 Catalans 8 Hudedersfield 9 Widnes 10 Wakefield
11 Salford 12 Leigh
Playoffs:Warrington Hull Wigan Castleford
Four sides rejoining: Widnes Wakefield Salford Leigh
GF Winners Warrington CC Winners Wigan

Its even harder when youre playing. Every call is wrong. However, after the game I find it hard to think of a decision that was so bad its worth grumbling about

It's not whether it is bad, it's whether it is right, and that seems to be lost. They miss so many things, and pull so many things incorrectly. They may not have an impact on a result or even momentum, but they are mistakes all the same. And the accuracy of the decisions is no better to what it was pre full time.

And your proposals for improving this are? ..................................................................................................................................

Refs are Human they make mistakes (though I don't think they makes as many as you seem to feel they do). But that's as much a part of the game as players having off days, less than ideal playing surfaces and crap summer weather. All affect all teams at some point in the season and unless fans believe in a conspiracy against their team, they probably even out.

If you had looked up the page before posting, you would have seen my proposal.

Either go properly with fulltime, which means holding refs accountable for poor performance, and having other fulltime officials to step in. Or do away with full time, as it is a waste with no improvement from what it was previously.

I just wish they were more consistent, both during the game and also with each other.

Most of the time the refs get it right. The major area of contention is ball steals and they are bound to get some of these wrong, given they have to call held, pull the defenders back 10 yards, watch for lying on, watch for not square, watch for offside whilst listening to backchat from any number of players.
