Just watching Saints v Dobbins and Cummings suggested the refs are cracking down on getting back the 10 and not messing about at the play of the ball.

I don't know how our discipline stacks up against others, but I do know I have seen us give away a lot of 'silly' penalties over the season.

The question is at what cost?

I know people will say the ref's are inconsistent etc but, when we talk about small margins making the difference then this is one area that could be improved.

It hair pulling time when you see a player give away a petulant penalty and move the opposition 30 metre up the pitch - its often on the back of a good set too!

I'd like to see the club really try and become trail blazers in terms of good discipline, it could be worth a few points come the end of the season, and as professionals it shouldn't be hard to enforce (the blatantly obvious ones)

Is it me or do we give a lot penalties away following errors? That would seem to be something that could be addressed by the coaches.

If anything we were too clean last night, ref was soft around the ruck, Wigan played to that, we just let them get up and play the ball fast.

If we had any brains we would have slowed down the ruck, once we realised you wouldn't get penalised.

We were penalised at least three times on Thursday for interfereing at the play the ball when the ball carrier was still on his feet. The refs seem to take a harder line on this than laying on the tackled player on the ground.

Wigan are not the only team that consistently get three tacklers on top of the ball carrier and then deliberately peel off one by one, often looking at the ref to ensure they are not being penalised and giving themselves plenty of time to sort their defensive line out. I have even seen teams practice this in their warm up. It looks pretty clear that the refs have said that this is acceptable. What amazes me is that our coach either does not spot this or is incapable of coaching our players to do this. I would hate it as a spectator if all teams did this as it would slow the game down so much but do we want to try and match the opposition and win games or not?

We got penalised for a good deep kick followed by some superb follow up defence during the last match. Says everything about where the game has gone when high quality defensive play is treated in that fashion. Total joke in my view.

In terms of clean PTB I think we've been one of the better teams, however due to the ineffective officiating this goes massively against us IMO

Totally agree with that.

When we're fresh we seem unable to manipulate the officials in the way that the top 4 or 5 teams and some others do. We're too quiet and too compliant and don't have that element of nous that so annoys us in other teams. When we are under pressure we make mistakes , we get fatigued and give sloppy penalties away , often it's by the players who are most involved and making the most carries. We lack that mental strength that better teams have. We are dumb as we are in many other regards and it doesn't help not having Pryce on the field who is probably our best/only talker.
