We had next to zero backing up, dummy runners went out the window after a short period into the game or as soon as we are chasing/under duress etc. As I pointed out in another thread we haven't kicked a 40-20 all season either.
Is that right, not a single 40-20 all season?

We also don't commit enough defenders so when the ball finally makes it to a Centre there is a full compliment of shirts waiting. We've looked better recently but its too late for our backs to look good on the try tables.
No one runs forward. All of our backs run across field or diagonally taking away space from outside them and making it easier for defenders. We need quicker (more accurate) passing and for players to run forward, committing defenders before passing. It's really obvious so I can't understand why we're not addressing it

It all starts from acting half back. Houghton's distribution is far too slow and when its not him its even slower. That is the difference between Houghton being slightly better than average and good. We have spent so much timr worrying about half backs (rightly so) since Cooke left, but neglected the main role in it all, that of hooker. We think we have a gem in Houghton, but the reality is that whilst he is a great club man, we will never improve while we have him playing such a dominant role in attack.
We seem to spend our time raiding Castleford for "stars" and yet we never (as far as I know) went for the real star in their squad Daryl Clarke.

The key to tonight's game is simple. Don't give KR the ball except at the end of our sets and don't get penalised every other defensive set. If we can complete at 75% plus I believe our forward pack is too strong for theirs. If we go into that pathetic mode of coughing up possession and giving them a sniff, like at Wakefield away after 20 mins, then we simply invite them into thinking they can still make the 8. That's when we're at our most vulnerable as mental strength isn't our greatest asset. Complete to a decent level and it will be very hard for them.

Good result for us last night, it will mean that if we lose tonight and Wigan beat us, Saints will need to beat Rovers to finish 2nd (2nd will get the home derby game which will be very beneficial to either club)
Lets hope we win tonight and we can relax a little next week, Staffs has it spot on, control the ball and stay disciplined (At least as much as Rovers) and I think we win the game through our dominant pack.

I think you're right, I've highlighted Lunt as key to how we go tonight. Who ever can control the ruck will win. A lot will also depend on how Silverwood refs it, he's been inconsistent this year to say the least and has gone from being one of the better refs a couple of years ago to seemingly just guessing at decisions

Pretty much sums it up. The big question is which FC team will turn up?
