The term "bully" gets thrown around without consideration to what it actually means. Is Radford really a bully by definition? And if he isn't, why do people keep saying he is? And if he is, where are these examples?

I'm not avoiding anything. If you're that bothered you google it. I spend enough time doing things for people who are either too lazy or too stupid to do it for themselves.

I've not accused anyone of bullying and I have no personal experience of radford to say whether or not he is a bully.

I have no idea why people keep saying he is, perhaps you should ask them rather than me. Likewise I have no examples.

Also, just for the record, I don't know what Friday night's winning lottery numbers are going to be

dundeeblackandwhite wrote:It's a minefield these days as to what actually IS bullying. Things like singling out, undermining someone are all classed as bullying from child at school to adult in work place.. It's a sorry state of affairs that everything is the way it is but that is the way it's looked at as I've had teacher at daughters school explain it and a few "cases" of it in my workplace. We all have an opinion of what we see as bullying (and imo some of reasons these days are borderline embarrassing) but it's the way the rules work now as far as I know.

But a lot of what you've just said their isn't actually bullying. Someone sees a one-off incident and cries "bully". A bully or bullying is persistent, and if anyone honestly thinks that Radford would be where he is today if he bullied players then they're either ignorant or naïve.

Too many people think that telling someone to do their job in a way they don't like is bullying. Criticising performance isn't bullying if it's justified. Singling out people if it's persistent and unjustified, but I don't think anyone really thinks that's happened.

Why so defensive?

I'm not asking you to do anything other than discuss on a discussion board.

You were talking about bullying in the workplace earlier, and what could be classed as bullying. Forgive me for wanting you to clarify your position in regards to a topic you have openly discussed. I didn't think it was akin to asking you to be a fortune teller.

For the record, unless it is persistent and unjustified, criticising a player in public would not be classed as bullying.

Just what is your position then? Based on what you know, do you think he is? You keep telling me what you haven't said.

You've asked me about 3 times to define bullying which I've told you I'm not interested in doing for you as it's irrelevant to what I posted..

I don't have a "position" on radford being a bully or not as I have no direct evidence either way. Some of his criticism of players in the media has been poor IMO and it does beg the question of how individuals are handled in private if that's how they're dealt with in public

My view is that open criticism of an individual in the media could be be classed as bullying dependent upon the severity and if it was allied to other things. Maybe it would fall more easily into other areas of employment law though. Are you an employment law specialist?

I'm not saying I think it is bullying imo, I'm only going of what I've been told from people who work in educating and managers in a workplace as to what they say what is considered bullying. Undermining and singling out, if the person it is aimed at believes it is then it has to be looked into. I'm not saying anyone is saying it is including shaul. I was just saying what I've been told by others that have to deal with that kind of thing.

I work in education and I've been a manager, so I've got a good grasp of the word myself, which is why I've raised am eyebrow at some of the accusations thrown his way. Believe me, I've had enough parents cry to me about bullying for what have been one off incidents (that usually are explainable and often started by the "victim").

I agree if there is a case of singling someone out persistently with no just cause then it could be. I'm not sure about undermining though, depends what sort of thing you are referring to.

You showed an interest in replying to it the first time. You then decided you didn't want to answer it properly.
When you talk about what you say could be classed as bullying, it is entirely relevant to what you posted.

That's fine. I'm of a similar opinion, but gut instinct would tell me he isn't as he wouldn't be where he was for as long as he was if he was a bully. His management of the players is poor, but that doesn't make him a bully.

It has to be persistent though. Bullying isn't a one off thing, it is a continued act. It would have to be persistent. I don't ever see any coach persistently bagging players in the media, just one off occasions on the rare shambolic performance.

Intimidation is a form of bullying, I can imagine Radford been quite intimidating to the younger players. Again not say that is the case, but could be an explanation to why it seems the younger players ain't happy

That would be the explanation the posters who are staunch anti-Radford would go down. It could be true, we can't disprove it, but there's little evidence and it's built from conjecture following a couple of radio interviews.

And, which players do we think have been unhappy at the club? Shaul, Crooks & Lineham at a guess?

Lineham asked to leave, we can't be sure exactly why. He was getting game time & playing well, so the assumption would be he wanted to move to a better team.

Crooks & Shaul are both known to have bad attitudes. I remember a York fan (may have been Wheels) coming on here while Shaul was there on loan telling us about his poor attitude. Both players with great potential, but if their attitudes don't fit in with the culture at the club, see ye later. Hopefully the situation with Shaul can be salvaged as I like watching him play.
