It doesn't mean that at all. Slightly dramatic.

It's only one player per club. Clubs can't do what Wigan did pre-SL and buy a team of superstars, each club should they wish to, can have x amount for one player over the threshold exempt. That's it.

The same players wouldn't suddenly become more expensive, just the very top ones would now be affordable as they wouldn't take up a huge chunk of cap space.

if you want to be naive then fine, can only see negatives in this decision.

Some of these comments are pathetic, the game is dying on it's booty thanks the how mediocre it has become due to the salary cap, this is the top level of our game and the top clubs are being punished because the lower clubs are to idle to find investors willing to spend, this move can only be good for the game, just because a club pay out mega bucks for a marque player it doesn't mean he will be amazing over here, plenty have failed in the past, Matty Johns, Trent Barrett, Willie Mason to name but a few

You seem to have talked yourself out of the argument.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

I've done my usual mistake of leaving words out while typing, oh well never mind

it creates an uneven playing field, RL had avoided following the largesses of Football and RU, now we're catching up with paying over the odds.

I would never describe anyone spending money on Rugby League as an "investor", there's little if no return to be had.

The non-club trained allowance has gone up to £175,000.

But, SL has to close the gap to the NRL and RU salary caps, otherwise SL will become a fully blown feeder league, won't it?

We've seen plenty of talent leave SL the past few years, with the overall quality of overseas players getting lower. This exemption should help both of those factors and increase the quality of the competition.

Uneven playing field? yeh, I agree, it does to a degree. But I don't think that's as terrible thing as it suggests. There'll be teams which can't afford to use this exemption, but there'll be 7/8 of a league of 12, who can afford it. That's still fairly a fairly even league.

SL shouldn't be content with only being as good as it's worst clubs, with the top half being held back. We want to see the best players possible playing over here don't we?
