Absolutely Pathetic!
I've followed Hull for forty years and couldn't believe what I was seeing last night.
Passing: Very poor. At school we were taught to pass at waist height just in front of the person so they could run on to the ball. Last night we were passing the ball at head height, or passing behind the man, (or at the man) that they had to remian static.
5th Tackle: I'd love to see the Hull FC/Doncaster Play Book for fifth tackles? Our first set last night, in the Rovers 20m, we failed to attempt any last tackle move. Later on in the game, again in the Rovers 20m - there was a delay due to an injury, on teh restart (last tackle) we drove it in for a handover to Rovers. Who is calling the shots. In my school rugby (union) team, we had over 40 plays, every player knew every move, where they had to be etc. In a match, our stand off (or captain) would call the move. If they went off, or were in the ruck, someone else would call the next move. It was drilled into us. That is when I was a 14 year old school boy who tarined 2.5 hours a week.
Kicking: Actually better than recent years last night. We actually made the ball bounce as opposed to sending it straight to the full back or winger. However, other than targeting their suspect winger twice, their was no real pressure exerted.
Line Breaks: If there was one, I missed it.
Attack: I'm normally the most optimistic of fans, however mid way through the 2nd half last night, I made the comment that even if we had the whole of the Doncaster side on our side, we still wouldn't score.
We have a squad on the maximum salary cap. They play in summer, on excellent pitches, with a modern, grippable ball (not like the old soap bars we had at school). They are full time professionals and probbly train 10-20 hours per week. This is not good enough. However, the buck stops completely with the Coach.
He'll site the quick turnaround, but Rovers also palyed last Friday. I know the game is faster these days (now played by full time professionals, but I remember Hull playing Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday in the early 80's (seem to remember Steve Evans scored two hat tricks in two days - without to many aches and pains)
Radford will also site injuries, well as has been mentioned previously, these are part and parcel of the game.
Unfortunately, what he won't site is that he is clueless. Lee Radford was a good player, but as a Coach has become an embarrassment!
Time to go Lee. Now!
