Manchester Rangers have today announced a move into the Manchester Regional Arena, a 6,500 capacity stadium based at the etihad campus.

The club has ambitions of bringing to fight Rugby League top Manchester and this looks to be a huge step in the right direction!

Seems a very good and important move to me.I'm surprised it hasn't attracted more comments.

Best of luck for the season.

Good luck & a good news story for a change. (Just waiting for the doom mongers to point out the proximity of the M62).

Good to see another ambitious club. They'll overtake Salford in no time.

Is there any link there with the old Broughton Rangers, who were based in East Manchester for a time before they folded?

What league do they play in? Why do they need such a large ground if they are an amateur side?

Is this an attempt to get them into SL eventually? Who is backing them financially?

Apologies if it's in the article, it won't open for me.

There is no direct link in terms of founder members with Broughton Rangers, later named Belle Vue Rangers.

However, there's a huge nod to the history of RL in Manchester and the naming of 'Rangers' is to honour that history. The club is looking to build upon the history and hopefully bring professional Rugby League back to Manchester.

Currently in North West Mens League divison 4. Whilst the team is currently amateur, the club is being run as pretty much a semi-pro club. The stadium is a statement of intent for where we want to go, the club isn't there to make up numbers in NWML, we want to climb the ranks. The stadium also gives a great foundation to do that, attracting interest that would otherwise not be there.

That's the plan but there's a lot of work that needs to be done between then and now. The club has a wealthy board of businessmen and women and some very passionate RL backers. The club is looking to run self-sufficiently and this season we've covered our running costs through bringing in sponsorship. As you can imagine with a large stadium, the running costs aren't inconsiderable so the sponsorship that has been brought in is a big commitment to the club by local business'.

Yep, a strong team in Manchester can only be a good thing for Rugby League!
