Not enough time to warrent it for me, if it was to be played at the etihad for eg, it could be a sell out without doubt, but the clap brigade down south wont entertain it as its not fashionable to attend rl games

This is my view as well, the rugby league community put too much time into promoting the sport in London. Instead of half filling Wembley for a game why not pick a smaller stadium in the north that will sell out and look a much better spectacle on TV. 50,000 at the etihad (after redevelopment) will look 100 times better than 40-50,000 at Wembley. Image is the key to promoting our sport.
Lets be honest, a club game will never sell out tge new wembley, as far as im aware, the cc final hasnt been a sellout for a long time, so nothing suggests to me that 2 teams from down under would make that any differant..., if the rl would invite the season starter to the etihad or similar then maybe it would have legs, id try to get a top class 9's tournament goibg on over here, the nrl has a hugely successful one pre season over there, coupled with our teams competing I beleive it could be a brilliant event, and it could attract huge sponsorship from both hemispheres

Promoted by the NRL and shown live on terrestrial TV this would work. Promote it amongst all the RL clubs in the South East with good ticket pricing to encourage all the players in the SE with their families and if need be the union clubs. I'm a member at a union club (soon to have league introduced) and I would feel confident that I could attract a coach load to a big game like this. Make sure the game is the highlight of a day of fun and action and this could do for the NRL and RL what is happening to the NFL in London. If the players held training sessions in RL clubs in the south this could build over the years and be a revelation.
I'm sure all the negative flat capers will soon be eating their words. But it must be promoted by the NRL.
Beneath the rule of men entirely great, the pen is mightier than the sword.

I'd happily see Magic Weekend scrapped and a proper 9's tournament in its place. We couldn't do it pre season like they do in Oz as there's a slight difference between a February in Oz and Manchester!
