Hunslet Hawks have re-signed their former player Richie Barnett from Keighley Cougars on a 1 year contract.
The winger, who was suspended from the game for two years in February 2008 after testing positive for a banned substance, has Super League experience with Hull FC, Warrington Wolves and Salford City Reds.
He joined Sheffield Eagles before moving to the Hawks in 2011. He was then snapped up by Keighley Cougars coach Jason Demetriou in 2012 and has made a total of 60 appearances for the Cougars scoring 30 tries.
Director of Rugby Darren Williams said “When Richie first contacted me about the possibility of returning to the club I said to him it’s something we would consider. He’s improved his game awareness over the last few years and he’s had some game time playing in the centre, so he also gives us some utility options there as well as his favoured wing position. He scores tries as his career to date proves and his ratio of a try every other game is most impressive. What’s really impressed me with Richie was his desire to play at the highest level possible, that’s been his motivation in this move and not financial gain and he’s always stated how much he enjoyed his previous spell with the club.”
Barnett added “I’m happy to be back at Hunslet as I enjoyed my previous time there so I still know alot of the staff & players which will make it easier for me to settle back in. I’m aware it’s going to be a tough challenge next year but with the players & staff currently in place the clubs definitely going in the right direction.”

Never one of my favourite players as he never seemed to have his heart in the game at Keighley and now his comments confirm what I have believed all along.
