but not yet apparently ... and I was wondering who his successor should be. I think with recent and historic, er, difficulties, they need to broaden the church's appeal, and so my suggestion is either Madonna or, if it still has to be a white male, Ricky Gervais. He would make a great Pope, either as himself, or even Pope Derek.
Sadly though Tony is probably already lined up.

I imagine you did the same as I did this morning: clicked on the "trending" link on the BBC News website.
Quite why Pope Benedict's decision to swallow the anchor was trending today is totally beyond me

Presumably you checked the date before committing yourself to posting. I noticed this article in the saume place and was similarly mystified. But I did make sure it was current...
