I use that every time my kids fly anywhere, sad but true, in fact I'll be following it on Saturday as the youngest is off to Majorca for a few days, I've even been known to send one of them a text message when they were in the airport waiting to board to tell them to go to the gate because they were boarding now, got one back saying "How the hell do you know?".
Amazing things these live departure boards on t'interweb.
I may have mentioned this before but a few years ago when flightradar24.com had just been released, Egypt Air were clients of ours and I was on the phone one day speaking to one of their people at Heathrow and waiting for some software to upload to them, on another PC I had flightradar24 open because my eldest was flying back from somewhere and as we idly chatted away I mentioned I was watching the other screen and that in the time it had taken to download, her flight had just crossed the English Channel - he didn't believe that such a program existed for public use until I checked the busy flight paths above Heathrow and told him the flight number of one of his own company aircraft that was on final descent and then a few minutes later that it had just landed, he was amazed and dashed off to show his boss

HAve you tried the thingy where you can switch to cockpit view from the plane? Not the actual view, of course, but a FS version, but amazing noetheless. Until due to delays in positional and course changes, and the processing power of your CPU, the view starts madly swinging from side to side and you become certain the plane's goin down

Great site ain't it. Flight tracking is a surprisingly popular pastime. I know a few people who follow flights online and listen in to airport/aircraft comms.
Interesting and understandable that everyone is avoiding eastern Ukraine like the plague. Most Europe - Far East/Australasia routings have been rerouted to the south.

Very impressed with that tracking site. The queues in the gulf/Syria/Iran region earlier today were ridiculous, they must have been stacking them 20 high.
I take it those trackers are all theoretical? And therefore cannot be used to locate missing planes? Another one today where it's been missing for hours on end without anyone finding it. Surely in this day and age it's possible to have some kind of location system?

This tracking site is real time with many dedicated followers installing receivers of ads-b m-lat needs at least 4 recievers to track a non ads-b equipped aircraft ( mainly older aircraft) then there's FAA which is in North America not real time but delayed by 5 minutes. The problem with this mornings aircrash was that there's no recievers in the area to supply coverage and as its a md83 these don't have ads-b transponders so would need to be in the category of m-lat.

Perhaps you should rename yourself "cock'ead. You take great pride in trying to belittle people if they don't state what they are saying to the the letter, this time your little bit of fun pokeing has stooped below even your low standards...not even funny that comment, but i'm sure the cuddle crew will be here to defend your discusting comment shortly.

The only problem with the tracker is that when the flight arrives at its destination you see it losing altitude and lining up for, say, Majorca, and then at 500 feet, without fail, the little graphic airplane will turn around and go somewhere else for a few seconds, or just stop, and you're left thinking "Don't do this to me, I've been watching you for two frikkin hours" - or you'll go make a coffee and come back and someone's refreshed your screen and you've lost your flight, 30 seconds later and panic sets in when you can't find it again "It was here somewhere, when do I call the police!"

Panic sets in when the message 'no call sign' appears.
