His dad (chief executive at Catalans) has now seen our last 3 games; he said to me last night that he is becoming a regular haha

Wire 12 - Wigan 16

A very even contest and I think a draw would probably have been a fair result. Too much dropped ball from both sides but the conditions had a lot to do with that.

Nice to sit with Godfrey, one of my Warrington friends and have a good rugby chat.

I think Warrington should be wondering how they have lost that game, more dominant in many areas and with plenty of field position. Wigan scoring from a dive-over and two power plays on the last tackle, Warrington failing to use the field position they had with far too many dropped passes. The weather was truly awful though, freezing and in driving rain which blows straight across the very open pitch at Victoria Park.

It was pretty physical up the middle of the park as well, some very heavy tackling.

Sounds grim, pity the weather ruined the game as I don't think the play many competitive matches do they ?

They only play eight games, and that was Wigans 1st as they had one postponed earlier due to bad weather. I quite enjoyed it all honesty, it was very competitive and much better than some of the big blowout score we sometimes get at this level.

I do wonder about some of the coaching though. The second half Wigan had a gale force wind behind them but kept on running and driving the ball (often losing it due to good defence and poor handling conditions) A young Edwards, Goulding or Briers would just have put the ball downfield and challenged the opposition to come back against the wind and rain/hail.

I think the counter to that is making the halfbacks handle the ball more, which is no bad thing.
