It's an absolutely stupid movie. It's pretty much Die Hard In The White House. I really think the bad guys should have just shot the girl. The abort of blowing up the White House because the girl was on the lawn of the WH flying the Presidential flag??? Them all flying off in Marine One, just shoot me.
But despite all that I still really enjoyed it.
Not really worth watching now you have basically told us all what happens....
And so you aim towards the sky, And you'll rise high today, Fly away, Far away, Far from pain....
Only God Forgives - as a big fan of Drive and having a slight man-crush on Ryan Gosling, I went into this with high hopes; unfortunately, my expectations were not met. It's so stylised and weird as to disappear entirely up it's own ar5e - the set-up is weak, the visuals are squint-inducing and the violence is seedy and unpleasant. A disappointingly terrible film.
Alter Ego - a kind of lo-fi Watchmen, independently made on what appears to be a shoestring budget; it's well acted, has some interesting things to say about the superhero genre and occasionally, descends into farce, which is less enjoyable.
Overall, not a bad way to kill 90 minutes. 6/10, adjusted for lack of budget.
The Wolf of Wall Street. DiCaprio looked to have had a blast making this, gloriously over the top with the sex, drugs, booze and greed turned up to the max with good laughs thrown in too.
