I think I've come a cropper on the Congestion charge though, I thought they would send you a bill if you went through the charging zone I didn't know you had to pre-pay or pay the day later. My fault for not checking before I went and I'll just have to wait to see if I get a fine through the post.
You will, on that you can be sure.
Why not phone them up, speak in a way that leaves them in no doubt that you are a pig-shit thick northerner and it was your first time in that there Lunnon, you never know, they might give you some leeway

I'd also call up though, the longer you leave it, the bigger the fine, ask the American diplomats.
I stayed in Kings Cross and turned into a road that had the C on the road but turned into the hotel's car park as I was still on the C, the camera was in the distance further up the road.
This was Thursday and then I left on Friday. I rang them on Monday them for the Friday but they said I couldn't pay for the Thursday and I would have to wait and see if I got a fine, they said it would take 7 days to hear something.

Check on Google Streetview, I remember a fuss about something similar when it was introduced. If you have turned off before you enter the zone you shouldn't get charged Streetview will confirm this.

I'll check but constitutes entering the zone going over the "C" in the road or passing the camera which was further along in the road?

Do some googling mate. There will be a strict legal definition of the CCZ, including defined boundaries and signage for such. Don't rely on TfL to have made sure all the signage etc adheres to the legal requirements
