OK, I need advice.

By a long and complicated route that I don't need to go into, I've found myself organising a charity gig.

The venue is a licenced one (The Leopard, Doncaster - one of my favourite venues)

I've got the four bands I wanted immediately, providing we can agree on a date.

Publicity isn't an issue.

DJs are sorted.

As this is a charity gig (Teenage Cancer Trust/Specialized) I obviously want this to go off well....

Has anyone any experiences/advice on things I may overlook?

Thanks.

Never went to Doncaster on tour, best to double check if there is a charge or indeed there IS a sound engineer/PA.
Headline band provided the drum shells, (usually) the other bands just need their "Breakables" (cymbals/stands/pedal/seat!!). They'll probably bring a mat (so it doesn't slip away).

Always worth having a back up band or two in mind, unfortunately there's always problems.

Make sure you have a volunteer/yourself on the door taking money, and somewhere safe to put it!

In the meantime, get in touch with companies about providing things for a raffle, find that ALOT of places will help (I worked with someone on a charity event and a...adult shop provided a surprise package (nice, and naughty!). If someone pays £3/5 for entry and then £1/2 for tickets, its a great way to increase funds.

Sounds like you've got everything going for you! Maybe sure it's well promoted, not just to friends but local media, TCT etc. Good Luck!

Cheers for that, and I'll be posting the details on here. The headliners are the only stumbling block, they want to do it, but can't do weekends in September so it's going to have to go back a month and hope we can work the rest out as the second band are busy too....

Would you contact bands in advance saying 'if we get let down, can you step in...' or would you leave it until it happens? I've another three bands I'm sure I can get but sods law says I'll miss them too!

OK, excuse the spamming, but if you're in the Doncaster area on Friday 18th October, get to the Leopard, it's shaping up to be a good night :)

It's a charity event, bands DO pull out unexpectedly, keep them sweet (be nice as per norm), and say you'll keep them in mind. Never know, might go so well that you want to do it again, and then you can give them first refusal :D
