Cougarmania was a fantastic time , packed grounds , top notch players , world class coach, And the best Rugby League ever seen at the ground , the pinnacle being the rain drenched muddy night beating Batley to lift the trophy

There is a book called Daring to Dream (I think). It's well worth a read and will give you a flavour. There are plenty of photos to add visual impact. I'm sure someone down at the club will have one. The whole atmosphere down at the club was one of inclusiveness, you all felt part of this wonderful living organism for whom nothing was impossible. The directors were approachable and would quite often mingle with the crowd and listen to your thoughts. You had to be there to understand the atmosphere in the ground, it seemed to have a life of its own, almost a density. You could hear the Cougar roar in Riddlesden. The whole town seemed to be involved, talk on Friday night was speculation on the Sunday event, and in the schools, factories and workplaces around keighley Monday mornings were dedicated to post match analysis. Keighley Cougars were more than a rugby league team, they were part of the social fabric of the area. I'm just glad I was part of it.
I have only been wrong once and thats because I thought I was wrong but I was wrong I was right!
Petty authoritarians aren’t man enough to challenge the actions of a person face to face; instead they incite a forum of rumour, innuendo and half truths, and impose rude sanctions to discourage those who dare question fairness.

Knowing that the greatest game in the world had completely sold its soul for the Sky££££££££££££££. The disgraceful way in which Keighley and Batley were stitched up.

Dreamer has it spot on. What a contrast to the apathy in the town now. It seemed as though the whole town was behind the Cougars, there was a buzz about the place that I had never experienced before and have never known since. Keighley was on the up, only to receive the biggest kick in the teeth one could ever imagine. Some folk may have decided to get their RL fix ten miles up the road (a decision I would never be able to understand) but I'm sure many people simply gave up on Rugby League when it became apparent that what happened on the field was less important than geographical location or whether a club had a nice stadium. To this day I simply cannot abide the likes of Maurice Lindsay and Chris Caisley; I don't think those feelings will ever go away either. Along with the magical atmosphere, I remember Cougar Park being full to the rafters every home game, the Cougar convoy to away matches when every car you saw seemed to be bedecked in red, green & white and at the away grounds we had more support than the home teams. It was just an amazing, wonderful time to be a Keighley supporter and, like Dreamer, I'm so glad I was there.
