Xbox 360 by a cricket score. Out of interest what is causing you to pop on one now, given the next generation is a few months away?

Depends on what you want out of it. Do you want a Blu-Ray player? Do you play online much or just the occasional dabble? 360 has the best online capabilities, but IMO the PS3 exclusives are better. You may also prefer the PS3 pad seeing as it's a continuation of the Dualshock you're already using.

It does seem like an odd time to buy a ps3/360, given that the next iterations of at least one of them will be out by the end of this year. If you're not bothered by that, then just go for the cheapest really. Both consoles, by this stage of their life cycle, will have a great and extensive backlog of games for you to try out.

Now probably the best time to get involved if you're a casual gamer. Next gen will take two years to start really producing anything special and all the current gen games will be cheap as chips. Considering buying a PS3 myself to compliment the 360 actually.

I can pick one up fairly cheeply now, and when the new generation come along the games will be cheaper. Not a serious gamer usually just spend an hour playing in the evening when the kids are in bed and the wife is watching soaps. My kids are still too young for games and the new generation will probably be out of date when I am getting pestered for a computer!!! Just want something affordable just to give me a bit of me time! (Much needed after a day with the twins!!)

Ps3 by a country mile. Better controller that you are already familiar with, reliable, free online gaming and you can play Blu rays on it. No contest!

Still got my PS2, will never give it up. Always nice to go back to some retro gaming now and again.
On a different note, started Skyrim over the weekend. Bought it when it came out, played it for a week, then never bothered with it. Started it again and can't switch it off, it's fantastic.
