Ha this is a myth.

I have to say the 'permanent singletons' that I know, are
a) invariably male
b) never look for a partner in the slightest

and surprisingly enough, women don't come and seek them out either. They just quietly get on with their own lives and hobbies and their relationship status or love life becomes the thing you don't mention.

I think it might work for women. Even an average looking woman will attract a few suitors without having to look particularly hard. If you have an average looking single woman, and place her in a context where she will spend time with a single man (eg through work, social friendship group etc) there is a fair chance that the single man will consider her as an option.

But it doesn't really work the other way round, I think if a man is single for a certain length of time and he wants to find a partner, there is much more of a requirement for him to do something pro active and make an effort. "Not looking" for a male avoids the thing of being desperate, but means he will go years and years without female attention.

Depends on the context really and how big your organisation is.

I would not recommend going out with someone in your office however in a big organisation it's not uncommon to have people meeting through work socials, and ending up in relationships with people in the same firm, or at least same industry, you have stuff in common and it doesn't really cause inconveniences.

When there is already a power relationship at play, eg one is the other's line manager, then its a definite no no.

It worked for me :) I used to go out every week as a single woman, hoping that night would be the night I meet "the one" and it never happened. Most men just wanted a one night stand (which I was not interested in) and once they found this out the would "disappear" to another pub.

On the other hand, I started a new job and it was at the beginning of my health problems, so I was concentrating on keeping my job whilst getting progressivly worse, when I met the future Mr HWS at work. I was not looking for anyone at the time, paying my mortgage and trying to get out of bed to work in the morning was consuming all my energy.

All I will say to the OP is don't come across as too desperate, a woman can spot a mile off if a man is genuinely interested in her or just where he will spend the night

As said above, the supermarket can be a good one. One of my favourites jokes is the meals for one joke.

Gym is another place or fitness class, Salsa dancing (allows you to get up close and personal).

Maybe even a evening class at college

Thats how I met the wife , She was my boss were I use to work and worked together for 4 years without any problems before I moved to another job . Sadly after 14 years together , It was her workplace that was the catalyst for our break up last year . I now find myself in the same boat as mike oxlong as the thought of starting up again quite daunting.

There are a few women where I work that I get on really well with, are easy to talk to and can have a laugh with - but I just wonder if I should take the next step and actually ask one of them out?

The work relationship is always in the back of my mind though, wondering if it can work out or not, but also if she said no, what would it be like when we were in the same room or passed each other on the corridor?

But if she said yes, where do I suggest to go - out for a meal/drinks, or a coffee??

As you can tell, it's not something I've done much of over the years, lol.

If you want to be outnumbered by women 10 to 1 join a salsa class

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.
