THERE are times I think we rugby league types could be a powerful lobby group - if we could actually identify each other more readily.

Welcome to my first column for RLfans.com. It was nice of the boys to ask me to write this - every couple of weeks in the off-season and then (maybe) every week when 2013 kicks off in earnest.

My brief is to share my experiences in being on the road in pursuit of rugby league, year-round. I'm a rugby league journalist but before that, I was a flag-waving Illawarra Steelers fan who at one stage went to games in full kit except the studded boots.

I hope there are no photos.

Before the Steelers entered the old NSWRL premiership in 1982, my mum was dragged to St George games on Mothers Day at least twice. Lidcome Oval had its charms, yes, but not on a day when your old lady is supposed to be honoured.

These days I write for media outlets in Australia and the UK on rugby league.

Hey Steve,

Interesting diary. But get yourself a one bedroom apartment in Sydney. Or better still, buy yourself one with the profits from your writing. Everybody needs a home to go back to.

You also need a place with walls to post your many photos of your international adventures.

And as for Sydney, it is called the Emerald City isn't it? People are dying to live there. Maybe you should think of finding a place near the water, so you can go swimming six months of the year. Bronte? Clovelly (walking distance from the Clovelly Hotel where you can have a few drinks with Gus Gould)? Neutral Bay? Cremorne? Mosman?

Don't forget, all the friends you make on your world travels would love a place to crash for a few days on their travels Down Under. So you need a one bedroom for privacy and a good night's sleep on those occasions when the visitors arrive. Who knows, some of those visitors might even be some very sensual French women from Perpignan, Carcasssonne, Toulouse, or Avignon. :D
That is when you will need a place to party with them long into the night! :ROCKS:

Toulouse for Championship in 2017, Super League in 2021!

Avignon for Championship in 2021, Super League in 2022!

Always a pleasure reading Steve's work, for me he's the best rugby league journalist in the world.

Hi Steve, I take it you will be doing the world cup tour next year, my little group are going to (amongst others) the USA v Cook Islands in Bristol and wondered if you fancied seeing the SS Great Britain with us and having a beer there?

Nice one Steve, I've always enjoyed reading your pieces in RLW. 110000 views so far is pretty impressive - good luck with the column.
