Yeah, I thought along those lines after I'd posted.
I'd have chosen Redknapp over Benitez. I'd guess at it being 70/30 from the Chelsea support if the option was given to us.
Redknapp has clearly never operated at the top level like Benitez has, but he's never really had the chance to either. But Redknapp is coming off the back of a successful period at Spurs while Benitez has had twin failures at Liverpool and Inter and sat around on the dole for nearly two years.
Even though Redknapp has just been at Spurs, I'd say most Chelsea fans are neutral about him, while most Chelsea fans cannot stand Benitez.
I think Redknapp's more "attacking" and "attractive" in his style of football than Benitez is. Di Matteo's having his achievements diminished, but Benitez needed a last minute equaliser to win the FA Cup final on pens and went three down in the CL final. One of the most magnificent achievements ever to get the three goals back, but CFC could play for a million years and we'd never be given a pen like the one Gerrard dived for.
I've argued for Roman and his board. I think there have been justifications for most of the decisions made. But the Jose/Grant and RDM/Benitez situations completely push me into the camp that thinks Roman is a complete idiot who's only interested in the shiniest things and only saving grace is a huge, open wallet.
I'm beginning to hope that Falcao and Guardiolo tell Roman they don't want to join his ridiculous circus.
