Tonga will be on a decent wedge at Leeds and he's no spring chicken. His forms not been great from what I read for a while but a move could spark him up.
It's a tough one. He'd be a bit of a gamble but then every signing is. I'm not sure if Lenagan wants to give the younger player an opportunity this year or if we're trying to keep costs down a little by running with a smaller squad.
Either way I'm looking forward to seeing guys like Thornley, Hughes and Powell playing more minutes. We'll need some luck with injuries to get close to a trophy IMO but if we get that our first choice 17 is good enough.
More than happy to see us give the likes of Gelling and Thornley the opportunity to claim the Centre spot personally. No point signing these guys to play in the reserves.
Tonga could be a fantastic signing for Leeds. Hes been consistently good for years and been on the fringes of rep squads. He is less of a gamble than Carmont was and look how he turned out. He'd be a great influence for the young lads too. I don't have worries about Gelling/Thornley in matches against lower opposition but think they may come unstuck against an Atkins or Watkins etc.
"Games as big as a grand finals define individuals and clubs. Remember we are only renting these shirts, I had my time in Pat Richards shirt. Ellery and Faz had there time in Sean's, Hampo and Radders in Sam's. You have to make a mark in these shirts that's still there the day you hand it over to someone else. So be aware for 80 minutes you are not only playing but also writing history and creating a legacy. How many people get to actually write history, not many. A big stage demands big players, be inspired. You play for Wigan, now go do it. Good luck." - Martin Offiah, 2010.
I'm hearing that Leeds are close to signing Joel Moon from Salford. I like Joel and think he may have done a job for us. Makes me wonder about Tonga's destination!
