It seems to me that the light entering is what it is through the 'scope (so no control over aperture). Need to set a reasonably high ISO, so is there a way then of automating shutter speed to get the correct exposure? Do you just have to guess maybe (which I find hard to believe given all the electronic wizardry)? I appreciate each camera will have different settings (mine is a Pentax) but any help with the principle would be gratefully received. Web searches for my camera model and digscoping with my camera have drawn a blank - save example results. I am pretty sure it needs to operate on manual (or even aperture priority) but the problem is without a lens I get no aperture reading.

I'm not sure what you're wanting to do. For most astronomical objects, you would want to take a number of images and then stack them. You certainly won't get any "automatic exposure" device for anything like a galaxy, or a nebula, they are just too small and too faint. You will be talking exposures in the minutes, or even in the hours in extreme cases.

Try the following pages from the Astronomy magazine website, if you click on most of the images, the photographers submitting them provide the tech spec as to how they produced that image so have a look at something which corresponds with whatever you would like to image, and start from there. Though there are many ways to skin a cat!

Does anyone know the name of this plant? I'm trying to re-name and organise my photos, but I have no idea what it's called;

Is it a dahlia of some sort? Might narrow it down when looking. Try www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk. Post the image and ask in the forums

This photo from an Under-11s soccer match was shot with my Nikon D600 and Nikon 80-200 f./2.8 using the 3D Auto-focus mode.

Details: Raw; Manual mode (1/500s, f.6.7); Auto-ISO (180); cropped to A4 aspect ration in Lightroom.

The picture shows my grandson (in blue with the ball) reacting to the referee's whistle having just been caught offside.

You can see that the focus is not where I would have wanted it. Straightforward user-error. Wrong choice of AF mode.

But the body language of my grandson's team-mate ensures it's a keeper!

Don't you dare diss my mate Barrie...

I agree. Thanks for the advice.

Mrs LBWR works for the University of Birmingham and the educational discount brought the price down to £60.

Ha! I'm loving that little lad as well!

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Frederick Douglas
