Froome won't be a force at the world's. The course is Taylor made for a a Gilbert/ JRod win.

other than my girth.

You can carry a decent amount of weight on pretty much any bike, just need to make sure you're loaded in a balanced way and have the correct tyres/pressures. Even an old Reynolds 531C frame is fine, some were used for cyclocross BITD and came with centrepull cantilver brakes so had plenty of space for wider tyres & eyelets so racks/mudguards could be easily fitted. Stability wise loaded no worse than a Super Tourist frame IME. Made for a lightweight touring alternative to the bog std offering like the galaxy.

The weight differential between the bikes is a bit of a red herring in any case as you're talking maybe a couple of kg tops in difference, small in % terms when comparing the all up weight of the rider/bike/load carried.
Some people think by shedding a few grams here and there that they are making the bike 'better', have seen people wanting a 'bombproof' wheelset and considering cheap factory wheels with 24 spokes
One advantage the Tricross has over many of the midrange tourer cum audax bikes is that it'll take 42mm tyres, the 2011 models are available discounted now, as low as £550

So are there any major pro's and cons when comparing a tricross to a tourer?

It's been fun.

If I already had a road bike I wouldn't bother with a tourer, unless i was going to regularly spend all day in the saddle. I would get a hybrid or tricross so I can use it for light off-road (canal towpaths, moor tracks) & panniers/towing bike trailers or kids tag a long bikes.
Going back to Edniburgh Bike, their highly regarded Revolution Audax tourer is down to £450 from £600.

Good to see some things never change, a Brit rider DQed in the Velodrome in the Paralympics, havn't seen it but by all accounts it is very harsh. Only way they can stop us

Not many really and of those not a huge amount of difference except in specification, it's only when you get to a handbuilt frame yo'll notice the true difference as it'll be made to measure.
Bikes are so individual as are we so it's never a case of one type/size fits all.

Voyager is a decent bike, the Sora shifters are a bit naff though, my sis in law has them on her Specialized Allez and they are a pole apart from the Tiagra level shifters in terms of ease of use.
You can get a 3.5% discount through topcashback if you are buying from Evans, though UKbikesdepot is £725 including postage
