On Friday 3rd August the manicured lawns of the Honourable Artillery Company in the heart of the City of London will once again host the prestigious Pcubed City Touch Rugby Tournament.
The event, now in its 4th year, will again be sponsored by Pcubed, whose involvement with the sport of Rugby League also extends to sponsorship of the annual Varsity match.
Twelve companies will go head to head at one of the most spectacular and unique sporting venues anywhere, hoping to be crowned City Touch Champions. Last year’s winners, Stratton Metals, are back to defend their crown and in the group stages are scheduled to play last year’s runners up, Goldman Sachs.
Other teams taking part include the 2010 winners Bloomberg , Ascertiva Group, Bishopsgate Financial, Chubb Insurance, Delta One Data, D.T.Z and Ipreo. ETF Securities will be fielding two teams and event sponsors Pcubed are also entering a team, making up the twelve sides.
All teams have ten players in their squads, with six on the field at any one time. The pace is hectic so there will be lots of roll on roll off substitutions to keep legs fresh.
The twelve teams will be split into two leagues of six, playing each other once to determine which two teams from each league progress to the semi-final stage. All matches are 12 minutes in duration, including the final.
Professional Rugby League coaches and players will be on hand to help the teams involved with some coaching and mentoring.
Last year’s City Touch was played in glorious sunshine so, after the recent spell of rainy weather everyone is hoping for a bright sunny day! As the tournament draws to a close those taking part will enjoy the traditional BBQ on the lawn, with a cold beer to cool them down, whilst the winners and runners up receive their trophies and medals.
Spectators are welcome and there will be a pay bar available on the lawn all afternoon.
