About as subtle as a brick with Rangi's face on it through a window!
This. It was a pre-announcement if ever I've seen one, lacking only a 'nudge, nudge, wink, wink' at the end. All signings come with an element of risk - Chase more than most possibly, but on the other hand he's much better than most.

When did Chase suddenly develop one?
The older I get, the better I was

He hasn't got one. But what he does have is an abundance of talent and the ability to keep the opposition guessing. His fellow players don't even know what he is going to do. He also needs to have a free reign - no shackles. When he has played for England McNamara has giving him a set role that hasn't always worked - same for Millward at Tigers most of the time. Under Matterson he had a licence to do whatever he thought best on the field -whatever he wanted to and this is what he is best at.
In summary the reigning man-of-steel has the X-factor Hull FC have been looking for.

Manu has gone let's move on. Ellis for Manu, Arudel for Turner and Chase for McKinnon, Watts for O'Carroll and McGoldrick for Ellis. All improvements IMO. Manu fantastic player but going so lets move on. In Gentle we trust.

When you finally settle the deal with Cas Tigers and have sorted his visa out you will then need to reduce your current wages bill to fit him under the cap. Rangi is in the top 3 bracket of earners in SL at the moment. Anyone else out of favour at Hull FC who Cas could be looking at ?
