Missed me have u?? Well seeing as we lost a representative Australian in Ryan Hoffman and then England international in Joel Tomkins both replaced from within the club, Hock and Goulding. We replaced Andy Coley with Eric Lauaki who will be on similar wages. Signed Anthony Gelling from Auckland Vulcans so he won't be on mega money! RFL made salary cap rule changes to allow us to give Sam his big contract and not take up the full amount on the cap. Add to that Amos Roberts retirement who will of been on pretty big amount as it was on same contract he arrived on. Also isn't there a rule u can spend a certain amount of profit on the cap? And unlike some clubs wigan actually operate with a profit

so we have it in one Wigan can spend more than the cap, so not a level playing field, looking at the Wigan squad there is no way they are not at full cap so Matty will take them further over. The RFL have no balls when it comes to the salary cap, Wigan caught three times cheating combined total loss of points 6, JCWWRL you are in cloud cuckoo land if you think Wigan have any space under the cap, perhaps a couple of players might play for nothing again to get below the cap, or Matty's partner is being employed as a consultant?

Oh and Sean O'loughlin is only 50% on the cap as too will Harrison Hansen next season I believe as players who have 10 year service at a club get half tbeir salary taken off the cap.

The Wigan team that is chock full of Academy players? They might be substantially better than anything Salford run out, but they're not on substantial wages.

Smart move for all parties, we get some cash for him (whilst we still can) Wigan get a "replacement" for Leuluai and Smith gets a move to a club that will win something.
I've never been a big fan of Matty for many of the reasons on here but having met the lad and chatted over a pint, he's one of the nicest and most genuine players I've spoken to, I wish him all the best but I'm not overly upset about it.
Bring in Sneyd, he's got 8 matches that he didn't expect to have for a chance to shine and show PV & SL, the team and us fans that he’s got what it takes. Great chance for him now.

The players and some staff don't seem happy on twitter, pretty fed up of seeing the whingeing tbh, yeah I know they might have a right to etc but Patten really leaves you wanting to slit your wrists his latest 'tweet' ''Staying off twitter might say something I'll regret''
When I first read about this, earlier,I thought it must be Shaun Wane doing his friend PV a great favour and getting a little money put in his direction. After all,the injury occurred during the first Exiles game. With PV losing 2 of the spine of his side rumours of also losing DJ are not very welcome but this deal is the best all-round.Matty gets to his new club and will experience their tilt at success on 2 fronts and we start the future without him,a player who had his heart and desire elsewhere. I think they call it a win-win.
I have no problem with him lining up against us in August, while the memory is very fresh in my mind about how comprehensively beaten 2 former Salford players were last Friday night.
Devils Disciples required - No initiation ceremony needed just enter AJ Bell Stadium on Gameday to be accepted.
I've just posted as much on the Wigan forum but now having some time to think about this the deal makes perfect sense.
Wage lost, transfer fee gained = massive help to our shoddy finances.
Game time for Sneyd who will most likely be our starter next year given we more then likely won't be able to afford an experienced replacement can only be a good thing. Harsh to write the lad off after the Cas game as I understand he was injured most the week prior. A good run of games could give him massive confidence going into next season. On the flip side, if he does turn out to be utter gash after 8 games we know we can't rely on him going into next season and will have to look at bringing somebody else in.
Top 8 a distant dream anyway with the 6 point gap.
