They get "nicknames" as a sign of affection. Before now I'd be confident in saying all those now calling him "Goldie" would have been calling him far more colourful names. It's funny how the imminent signing of a player can suddenly completely change the opinion of some people.

We just lost two players for the season. Its a stopgap signing so Whiting can play in the pack to cover the loss of Tickle. Star article says he is only signing until the end of the season, we need bodies.

I did and still do to an extent.
On McGoldrick I think we just have to wait and see, he won't be our starting 1 or 6 next year and could just be general squad cover. He is here this year due to injuries and if PG thinks next year he can offer some utility value then so be it. If he was our starting 1 or 6 i'd think differently.
He is a talented player no doubt, he hasnt shown that though in the last couple of years, maybe at Hull with better players he will do well?

I used the name Goldie in a previous post because:
a) I've heard him called that as a nickname whilst at Cas and b) Because it saved typing out full name McGoldrick
Sorry if that didn't meet with your approval but never mind I'll get over it.
