The England Academy beat France U18's at the weekend by 38-18. Man of the match was Ryan Hampshire, but James Saltonstall who played on the wing, was picked by the French as their England man of the match. He scored a try but apparently his defensive work was excellent and he prevented at least two French tries. All good signs for us !
Some guy called John Batemen captained the side, although apparently he didn't have a great game.
I was at the game and Saltonstall played very well particularly defensively where his decision making on when to come in or stay on his wing was excellent.
Hampshire took his try very well and kicked five goals (three from the touchline) but Connor Farrell was my m.o.m. with a fantastic all-round performance.
All those three players should have played their way on to the plane to Australia when the touring team is announced later this week.
I actually think Saltonstall is probably a better centre than winger from what I've seen of him (admittedly limited viewing)
