The 'current-gen' consoles are so far behind current PC tech it's not even funny.
Thats because most console gamers think Dell or Currys are the be all and end all of PC's. I sorted my mate a pc out from Overclockers. Just short of £300 and runs every First Person Shooter on full settings and gets 70FPS when Frapsing.
I built my own and its spec is scary, but then I play MMORPGS and run 10 accounts so I need the extra spec.

Really? Memory alone would cost £100, mouse and keyboard another £50. And that's before you start with a processor, graphics card, sound card, box, power lead etc. I'll admit I'm not well up on gaming PCs, but surely that's stretching it a bit?
How long would said PC be able to keep up? I'll bet it wouldn't do the 8 years the Xbox 360 has been out for?

No way you can get a high performance machine for £300. The graphics card alone would cost that. Btw 10 mmorpg accounts? You do know there's an outside world right?
Happy with my Xbox. £150 and it's lasted me 5 years. Don't get near that lifetime out of a PC so itll do just fine for me.

£300? Surely there's some second hand parts in there? My graphics card cost more! ...the power supply is more than half of that too! (although paying more for modular and higher efficiency is well worth it)

With overclocking you'd probably be good for 4-5 years at maximum settings but then you'd need to tone down the graphic settings.
That £300 computer...probably a couple of years before the graphics card starts to bottleneck the system.
The best bit about a PC is how easy it is to swap out parts etc when they aren't good enough anymore.

PC's are boring.
I like to play FIFA in the living room with my mates on a massive 50 inch TV. This is why people buy consoles and this is why they're more popular. Developers don't care about PC gaming.

I have both a decent spec PC which cost about 300 quid with a mid range card and an xbox, and the performance of the pc craps all over my xbox, I can still play it on my TV through the HDMI out on my pc and I can use my xbox controllers aswell so I think the whole " I can play on my tv in the living room" thing is something that is slowly becoming less and less exclusive to consoles. Of course a console at the moment is easier because theres no waiting to boot up etc and its a bit more "portable" but as far as performance goes I don't think you can beat a pc. I also like the odd muck about on MS flight simulator which would be awful on a console for so many reasons.
My pc cost around £330 which is an amd Phenom x6 3.2 ghz processor with 12 gb ram overkill maybe but meh!.. , I haven't decided to overclock it yet as I haven't felt the need. I used my hard drives out of my old pc to save a a few quid and put in a radeon 6850 card which is a decent mid range card.

trust me, you can get systems (minus monitor) that out perform the xbox/PS by a large margin for around £300
That's the main reason I wouldn't invest in a gaming standard PC and keep it updated. I think the fact that everything is in one place on a console and you don't have to fuss about installing stuff and updating drivers to get the game to work just makes it a much simpler experience.
