nope, refuse to own either a tumble dryer or microwave, too power hungry.

It's one of those little ironies of life that, in the days when I wanted a microwave, I couldn't afford one – and now, I wouldn't have one near the place.

To be honest, I don't know what on earth I'd use it for.

On the power thing, I was astonished to discover, recently, that old analogue TVs eat far more power than new flat screen jobbies. It had not occurred to me that there'd be any difference.

There's a huge difference, isn't there?

I recently went around the house checking everything that was on "standby", two TV's, CD player, Hi Fi, Oven (no clock, so why?) two radios, Sky box, Wifi Router, two iphone chargers, two normal mobile chargers, portable vacum thingy, we waste so much energy it's untrue, all of the multi socket sets have gone, have one of those multi plug sockets and either the TV/DVD or the Hi Fi are on, nothing else.!

And the only thing I'd use a microwave for would be popcorn, and it's more fun doing that in a pan without the lid on, minutes of fun (and a good hour fo cleaning up and calming my other halfback down, as was witnessed last night after we'd been sat in the sunshine drinking most of the day!)

So I gather from Which?, yes.

Ours was getting flaky – it was one of (presumably) the last generation of those vast old things (took up a quarter of the room). We'd had it for around seven and a half years and were, in typical fashion, preparing to let it rumble on until complete collapse, until I read the Which? piece.

God, HD is such a pleasure to watch, as well as being better environmentally.



It is extraordinary what people/we leave on.



Oh, popping corn in a pan is an absolute must!

I will never, ever, forget the unbridled joy on my niece's face when I amde popcorn with her andd I let her take the lid off for the last 30 seconds, it was like I'd given her a million pounds in cash, she helped me tody up and we ate the rest watching Shrek, happy days!

Making popcorn, making children happy, watching an animation.....thats what people do for fun, so what have you done with the real Standee?
