And on a similar vein, a question that I had to consider when I almost adopted a deaf Dalmation dog last year from Dog Trust - how do you recall a deaf dog that has run away ?
Or indeed communicate with it at all ?
I guess there could be a dog sign language, my not-deaf dog understands the finger wag and the finger beckon, especially when food is involved.

Sign language. You can make up your own signals which suit you and your dog. As for recall, I always think its better safe than sorry, so if you're not in an enclosed area, probably best to keep him/her on a long line. Some dogs don't stray very far, my own staffy x hardly leaves my side on a walk so you could train the dog to keep coming back to you periodically so it becomes a habit.
There used to be a deaf jack russell at our training club and he was a nutter, didn't bother him at all.
A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.
When you rescue a dog, you gain a heart for life.
Handle every situation like a dog. If you can't Eat it or Chew it. Pee on it and Walk Away.

Most blind people use their guide dog to give their booty a lick to ensure it is clean. A dog can get its tongue right into the anus.............apparently.

Extensive research has been carried out into this very subject on the Rovers board.
If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.
