I've used the drier balls but they were from JML. Didn't notice anything different to my clothes other than they made a bloomin' racket in the tumble drier

This sort of stuff is 99% bunkum and crap. So imagine my surprise when after 5 mins of googling, I can't really find anyone with a bad word to say about it? Good reviews all over the place. Weird. Looks like you can get 720-washes worth on Amazon for £19.99 including a claimed 30 day money back guarantee. Hmm.
I am sufficiently convinced that I think Mintball should get one and do some tests, for the good of the forum. Would do it myself but obviously, washing, and I'm male, so I can't work the chine.

It's a plastic ball that seems to contain a couple of packets of baking beans, as FA says, it's supposeldy good for 720 washes, but my main concern is it leaving a chalky residue on dark clothes, £20 seems to be good to be true in all honesty.

But not as old as me, dear: I've seen Lynda Baron on stage. Twice.

Just make sure you get at least 719 washes out of it before the 30 days are up though!
6 more washes to go before we start using the egg (as in 6 of the normal washing tab things under the sink), will keep people posted as to how good the "egg" thing is.
