Charlie Sheen wrote:Actually having gone through the ending a couple of times I now realise why everyone seems to be so pi55ed off with the ending. Its almost as if the ending was just put there to just get the game out. There're so many holes in the ending it seems a totally new writing team took over for the last 30 minutes.

*Spoiler time*

How can the mass relays be destroyed? In the DLC for ME2 it was pinted out that destroying a mass relay would destroy solar systems. Yet this doesn't happen when they all get desyroyed. Also how does everyone who was fighting the battle around Earth get home?

No clue is given to what happens after the battle except the Normandy crsh lands on some random planet. How did the Normandy get there if the Mass relays were destroyed?

There's a few more I've spotted but what really anoys me is that unlike the rest of ME 3 the choices you make in the previous games don't seem to matter as all the endings are pretty much identical. I know there's an ending where sheppard lives but even that is only a couple of seconds added on.

Its a shame because 99% of this game (and the other 2 games to be fair) is brilliant but its one of the worst written endings I've ever come accross in any form of media.

Just finished it last night, and saw two of the endings. I can see where the criticism comes from - especially on the Normandy scenes, which I would have just left out to leave things to the player's imagination. I actually thought the 3 choices were OK - very Deus Ex (some might say Deus Ex lite). But it definitely didn't ruin my experience, although I was preparing myself for the worst. It would have nice to have had a happy ending (and fully explained) like ME1, but this wouldn't have fit with the arc of the story IMO. The final section on Earth is entirely satisfactory if you consider that to be the real ending (i.e. the story of the team you have built making the ultimate sacrifice, the lead-up with everyone saying their goodbyes etc).

I've decided to start afresh and play everything through again from ME1 & buy some dlc for the 3 games (something I've resisted so far). Is all the dlc good, or are there expansions to be avoided? Not too bothered about buying extra equipment.

That's what I have done, started from scratch, this time with a Fem-Shep. I really enjoyed the ME3 DLC where you pick up Javik, the Prothean. Really strong squad member and it's a great mission too.

Not tried ME2's Shadow Broker DLC, but I've done the Batarian DLC, and the Normandy memorial site.

I know what you mean. As I said the game overall is amazing. Some stuff has been taken out that I liked on ME2. I'd have preffered the dialog to be more like ME1 & 2 with the convo wheel instead of auto dialog, to be fair I thought overall the voice acting was better. I just didn't think the ending made sense and was full of contradictions. Before the games was released it was reported to have 16 DIFFERENT endings - Thats not true there were 3 endings that were 95% the same.

You should play most of ME2's DLC. Arrival, Project Overlord and The Shadowbroker are essential to the story overall. Arrival especially as its the real ending to ME2.

thoughts?

I mentioned this to my Mrs on a whim the other night, hadn't seen it on here first either, said something like 'how long do you think it will be until a game disc becomes console-specific'.

I don't think it will be that long until the do away with discs all together and something like Steam replaces them.

That's the latest rumour I've seen.

First it was the actual discs will be locked to one PSN/Gamertag then that's evolved to you will only be able to get games via direct download which will then be locked to the PSN/Gamertag the game was downloaded on.

If that's the case, then surely games should drop in price due to decreased material costs, (no discs, cases, cover art etc). Though i wouldn't bet on it, seeing as i've just logged into XBL and found that FIFA12 on demand is £50. It wasn't even above £40 in most shops!
